Colorado Field was an outdoor college football stadium in the western United States, on the campus of Colorado State University in Fort Collins, Colorado. Opened in 1912, it was the home of the CSU Rams of the Western Athletic Conference (WAC) through 1967. The Rumble in the Rockies, or Colorado–Utah football rivalry, is an American college football rivalry between the University of Colorado Buffaloes from Boulder and the University of Utah Utes of Salt Lake City. After nearly five decades of dormancy, the rivalry was revived in 2011, when both joined the Pac-12 Conference. From 1903 until 1962, Utah and Colorado played each other nearly every year, a total of 57 games. The 1938 Utah Utes football team was an American football team that represented the University of Utah as a member of the Mountain States Conference (MSC) during the 1938 college football season. In their 14th season under head coach Ike Armstrong, the Utes compiled an overall record of 7–1–2 with a mark of 4–0–2 in conference play, won the MSC championship, defeated New Mexico in the 1939 Sun Bowl, and outscored all opponents by a total of 187 to 36. Tackle Barney McGarry was the team captain. McGarry was also selected by the Central Press as a first-team player on the 1938 All-America team. Rocky Mountain Showdown
The Rocky Mountain Showdown is the name given to the Colorado–Colorado State football rivalry. It is an American college football intrastate rivalry between the University of Colorado Buffaloes and the Colorado State University Rams; the winner of the game receives the Centennial Cup. It began in 1893 and was played annually from 1899 to 1958, except for 1901, 1905, and 1943–44. It was revived in 1983 and played periodically until it became an annual rivalry once again from 1995 to 2019. Since 1998, the game has usually been played in Denver at Mile High Stadium and its replacement, Empower Field at Mile High, although the 2004, 2005, and 2009 games were played at CU's Folsom Field in Boulder.
