1938 Bolivian Legislative Election
Constituent Assembly elections were held in Bolivia on 13 March 1938. Prior to the elections, an electoral alliance named the Socialist Single Front (FUS) was formed by the Legion of Veterans, Confederation of Bolivian Workers, Workers' Party (Bolivia), Workers' Party, Popular Front of Potosí, United Socialist Party (Bolivia), United Socialist Party, Republican Socialist Party (Bolivia), Republican Socialist Party, and Independent Socialist Party (Bolivia), Independent Socialist Party. The FUS won 96 of the 103 seats in the Chamber of Deputies and all 18 seats in the Senate. Results Aftermath On 27 May 1938 the Constituent Assembly elected Germán Busch as president. Busch had assumed the presidency on 13 July 1937 as a result of a coup d'état. The Assembly was dissolved by Busch on 24 April 1939.Political handbook of the world 1940. New York, 1940. P. 12. Socialist Single Front (Spanish: ''Frente Único Socialista'', FUS) was a Bolivian electoral political alliance of left-wing and socialist political parties and organizations. Legion Of Veterans
The Legion of Veterans ( Spanish: ''Legión de Ex-Combatientes'', LEC) was a Bolivian Chaco War veterans' organization. It was organized on 13 September 1935 by Lieutenant Colonel Germán Busch from various local veterans groups which had established themselves across the country following the end of the Chaco War. Confederation Of Bolivian Workers
The Trade Union Confederation of Bolivian Workers ( es, Confederación Sindical de Trabajadores de Bolivia, CSTB) was the largest and most prominent trade union confederation in Bolivia from 1936 to 1952. A National Labor Congress met on 29 November–6 December 1936, with 134 delegates present, and created the CSTB. The congress adopted a number of resolutions, these included demands for nationalization of the holdings of "Standard Oil Company" in Bolivia and workers' profit sharing, minimum wage related to the cost of living. The CSTB at its inception was based principally on the chauffeurs and factory workers of La Paz, some factory workers' unions in Oruro, and a few groups of miners, as well as various artisans' groups. Most CSTB leaders worked closely with the Germán Busch Becerra’ government. Workers' Party (Bolivia)
The Workers' Party (Spanish language, Spanish: ''Partido Obrero'', PO) was a Bolivian left-wing-socialist political party. The Workers' Party was founded on November 23, 1937 by the leaders of the trade union Confederation of Bolivian Workers. The leaders of the Workers' Party were Waldo Álvarez España, Eduardo Arze Loureiro, Julio Ordóñez, Federico González, Luciano Durán Böger, Luis Peñaloza and Román Vera Álvarez. The Workers' Party was associated with the revolutionary government of Colonel Germán Busch, Germán Busch Becerra (1937–1939). The Socialist Republican Party ( es, Partido Republicano Socialista, PRS), whose members were also known as "Saavedristas", was a political party in Bolivia. The Socialist Republican Party emerged on January 28, 1921, as the Republican Party was bifurcated on the same day Bautista Saavedra took office as President of the country. Germán Busch
Víctor Germán Busch Becerra (23 March 1903 – 23 August 1939) was a Bolivian military officer and statesman who served as the 36th president of Bolivia from 1937 to 1939. Prior to his presidency, he served as the Chief of the General Staff and was the Supreme Leader of the Legion of Veterans, a veterans' organization founded by him after his service in the Chaco War. Busch was born in either El Carmen de Iténez or San Javier and was raised in Trinidad. He attended the Military College of the Army and served with distinction in the Chaco War. For his actions, he rose to prominence among the high command of the armed forces, participating in the military-led ousters of presidents Daniel Salamanca in 1934 and José Luis Tejada Sorzano in 1936 Bolivian coup d'état, 1936.
