Pacific Coast Conference
The Pacific Coast Conference (PCC) was a college athletic conference in the United States which existed from 1915 to 1959. Though the Pac-12 Conference claims the PCC's history as part of its own, with eight of the ten PCC members (including all four original PCC charter members) now in the Pac-12, the older league had a completely different charter and was disbanded in 1959 due to a major crisis and scandal. 1937 Idaho Vandals Football Team
The 1937 Idaho Vandals football team represented the University of Idaho in the 1937 college football season. The Vandals were led by third-year head coach Ted Bank, and were members of the Pacific Coast Conference. Home games were played on campus in Moscow at the new Neale Stadium, with one in Boise at Public School Field. Season Led on the field by passing halfback Hal Roise, Idaho compiled a 4–3–1 overall record and were in the PCC. The recently completed Neale Stadium hosted an upset homecoming win over favored Oregon State, the first of four straight wins to open the venue. In the Battle of the Palouse with neighbor Washington State, the Vandals suffered a tenth straight loss, falling in the rain in Pullman on October 2. Brooklyn Dodgers (NFL)
The Brooklyn Dodgers were an American football team that played in the National Football League from 1930 to 1943, and in 1944 as the Brooklyn Tigers. The team played its home games at Ebbets Field of the baseball National League's team, the Brooklyn Dodgers. In 1945, because of financial difficulties and the increasing scarcity of major league-level players because of the war-time defense requirements at the height of World War II, the team was merged with the Boston Yanks and were known as the Yanks for that season. Tackle is a playing position in gridiron football. Historically, in the one-platoon system prevalent in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, a tackle played on both offense and defense. In the modern system of specialized units, offensive tackle and defensive tackle are separate positions, and the stand-alone term "tackle" refers to the offensive tackle position only. The offensive tackle (OT, T) is a position on the offensive line, left and right. Like other offensive linemen, their job is to block: to physically keep defenders away from the offensive player who has the football and enable him to advance the football and eventually score a touchdown. Paul Szakash
Paul Michael "Socko" Szakash (May 5, 1913 – October 24, 1984) was an American football player. Szakash was born in Chicago in 1913. He attended Fenger High School in Chicago. He played football at Fenger in 1929 and 1930 and then for the Gano Athletic Club from 1934 to 1937. He next attended the University of Montana and played college football as a fullback and place-kicker for the Montana Grizzlies football team. After playing every minute of every game in 1935, he missed the 1936 season after sustaining a ruptured appendix. During his recovery, he helped coach the freshmen. He returned to the team as a player in 1937. He was selected by the Detroit Lions with the 56th pick in the 1938 NFL Draft. During his first training camp with the Lions, the ''Detroit Free Press'' reported that he "showed more drive in plunging than any other young man who ever came to the Detroit camp." Chicago Cardinals
The professional American football team now known as the Arizona Cardinals previously played in Chicago, Illinois, as the Chicago Cardinals from 1898 to 1959 before relocating to St. Louis, Missouri, for the 1960 through 1987 seasons. Roots can be traced to 1898, when Chris O'Brien established an amateur Chicago-based athletic team, the Morgan Athletic Club. O'Brien later moved them to Chicago's Normal Park and renamed them the Racine Normals, then adopting the maroon color from the University of Chicago uniforms. Milt Popovich
Milton John Popovich (December 25, 1915 – June 23, 2005) was a professional American football halfback in the National Football League. He played with the Chicago Cardinals from 1938 to 1942. Milt was born Dec. 28, 1915, in Butte, Montana to Joko and Josephine Popovich. Milt was the youngest of eight children born into the Popovich family with only two surviving siblings; his older brother Gene, and older sister Zorka. Milt graduated from Butte High School in 1934. Popovich "Popo" was a prominent athlete at Butte High competing in football, basketball and track. He played on the 1932 and 1933 state championship basketball teams at Butte High. He also was on the 1933 track team when it took the state crown. Milt scored 12 points at that state meet, the most of any athlete competing.
