1937 Central Michigan Bearcats Football Team
The 1937 Central Michigan Bearcats football team represented Central Michigan College of Education, later renamed Central Michigan University, as an independent during the 1937 college football season. In their first season under head coach Ron Finch, the Bearcats compiled a 6–2 record, shut out four of eight opponents, held six opponents to seven or fewer points, and outscored their opponents by a combined total of 202 to 41. The team's sole losses were to Wayne State (0–18) and Western State (0–7). Coach Finch was hired as the school's head coach in March 1937. Ron Finch
Ronald W. Finch (October 19, 1902 – April 19, 1962) was an American football and basketball coach. He served as the head football coach at Central Michigan University from 1937 to 1946, compiling a record of 54–18–1. Finch was also the head basketball coach at Central Michigan for one season in 1943–44, tallying a mark of 10–6. Before coming to Central Michigan Finch taught and coached football at several high schools in the state of Michigan. He retired from coaching following the 1946 season and served as a dean at Central Michigan until his death in 1962. Kalamazoo ( ) is a city in the southwest region of the U.S. state of Michigan. It is the county seat of Kalamazoo County. At the 2010 census, Kalamazoo had a population of 74,262. Central Michigan–Western Michigan Football Rivalry
The Central Michigan–Western Michigan football rivalry is an annual college football game between Central Michigan University (CMU) and Western Michigan University (WMU). The winner receives the Victory Cannon. In its first appearance, it was awarded to CMU at the conclusion of the October 18, 2008, game. Victory Cannon A cannon, which represents the cannons that are fired at both CMU's Kelly/Shorts Stadium and WMU's Waldo Stadium, sits atop the trophy and each of the schools' wins are noted on both sides. Although the trophy was not awarded until 2008, the two teams first played one another in 1907. Orchard Lake Village is a city in Oakland County in the U.S. state of Michigan. The population was 2,375 at the 2010 census. Saint Mary's College, also known as St. Mary's College of Madonna University, is a private college located in Orchard Lake Village, Michigan. The Central Michigan–Eastern Michigan football rivalry is an annual college football game between Central Michigan University (CMU) and Eastern Michigan University (EMU). The football series between the two universities dates back to 1902 and is the oldest rivalry in the Mid-American Conference (MAC), having begun five years before the Central Michigan–Western Michigan rivalry and six years before the Miami–Ohio rivalry. With 100 games having been played, it is also the most frequently-played series between MAC schools.
