1935–36 FC Basel Season
The FC Basel 1935–36 season was the forty-third season since the club's foundation on 15 November 1893. FC Basel played their home games in the Landhof in the district Wettstein in Kleinbasel. Franz Rinderer was again voted as the club chairman and this was his fifth consecutive season as club president. Overview Alwin Riemke was appointed as new team manager. He followed Richard (Dombi) Kohn who had moved on to manage Feyenoord. Riemke came from Lausanne-Sport, who had won the double in the previous Nationalliga championship season and the Cup. Riemke acted as player-manager and played four matches during the season. Basel played a total of 38 matches in their 1935–36 season. 26 of these matches were in the Nationalliga, one in the Swiss Cup and 11 were friendly matches. FC Basel
Fussball Club Basel 1893, widely known as FC Basel, FCB, or just Basel, is a Swiss football club based in Basel, in the Canton of Basel-Stadt. Formed in 1893, the club has been Swiss national champions 20 times, Swiss Cup winners 13 times, and Swiss League Cup winners once. Basel have competed in European competitions every season since 1999–2000. They have qualified for the Group stages of the Champions League more times than any other Swiss club – a total of seven times – and are the only Swiss club to have ever qualified to the Group stages directly. Heinz Elsässer
Heinz Elsässer (born 11 March 1917) was a Swiss footballer who played for FC Basel in the second half of the 1930s and in the 1940s. He played mainly as midfielder, but also as defender. Elsässer played youth football by FC Basel. He joined their first team at the beginning of their 1935–36 season. He played his domestic league debut for the club as defender in the away game on 1 September 1935 as Basel won 4–2 against Aarau. He scored his first goal for his club on 3 January 1937 in the home game at the Landhof against Grasshopper Club. It was the first goal of the game, a penalty kick, as Basel won 2–0. Elsässer played twelve seasons for Basel. In the season 1938/39 Elsässer and his team suffered relegation to the 1 Liga. Although Basel were 1 Liga champions the following season, there was no relegation and no promotion due to the second World War.
