Horace Griggs Prall
Horace Griggs Prall (March 6, 1881April 23, 1951) was a New Jersey attorney and Republican Party (United States), Republican politician. He served for a number of years as a state legislator and a short term as acting governor of New Jersey in 1935. Prall was born near Ringoes, New Jersey, Ringoes in East Amwell Township, New Jersey. He attended Harvard University (1906) and New York University School of Law (LL.B. 1908). After almost two decades of practicing law, Prall was elected to the legislature, first to the New Jersey General Assembly, Assembly (1927–28), then to the New Jersey Senate, State Senate (1928–36), serving as president of that body in his last two years of tenure. After the resignation of Governor A. Harry Moore, Prall served as Acting Governor for a brief period (January 3, 1935 – January 15, 1935). Eugene Talmadge
Eugene Talmadge (September 23, 1884 – December 21, 1946) was an attorney and American politician who served three terms as the 67th governor of Georgia, from 1933 to 1937, and then again from 1941 to 1943. Elected to a fourth term in November 1946, he died before his inauguration, scheduled for January 1947. Only Talmadge and Joe Brown, in the mid-19th century, have been elected four times as governor of Georgia. A member of the Democratic Party, he is known for having actively promoted segregation and white supremacy, and for advocating for racism in the University System of Georgia. Early life, education and career Eugene Talmadge was born in 1884 in Forsyth, Georgia, to Thomas and Carrie (Roberts) Talmadge. The 1934 Georgia gubernatorial election took place on November 6, 1934, in order to elect the Governor of Georgia. Incumbent Democratic Governor Eugene Talmadge was re-elected to a second term. As was common at the time, the Democratic candidate ran unopposed in the general election so therefore the Democratic primary was the real contest, and winning the primary was considered tantamount to election. Jasper McLevy
Jasper McLevy (March 27, 1878November 20, 1962) was an American politician who served as mayor of Bridgeport, Connecticut from 1933 until 1957. He was a member of the Socialist Party, later leaving in protest to join the Social Democratic Federation. Early years Jasper McLevy was born to Scottish immigrants Hugh and Mary Stewart McLevy in Bridgeport on March 27, 1878. McLevy worked first as a roofer, learning the trade from his uncle after his own father died when he was 14. After reading Edward Bellamy's futuristic, utopian novel ''Looking Backward'', he became a socialist, and helped form the Bridgeport Socialist Party in the early 1900s. The 24-year-old idealist first ran for the Connecticut General Assembly under the Socialist banner in 1902, collecting 215 votes.
