1933–34 FC Basel Season
The FC Basel 1933–34 season was the forty-first season since the club was foundation on 15 November 1893. FC Basel played their home games in the Landhof in the district Wettstein in Kleinbasel. The club chairman Franz Rinderer, who was the president for the third consecutive period. Overview The Austrian trainer Karl Kurz remained trainer for his second season and fellow Austrian Josef Haist was is co-trainer. Kurz was ill with leukaemia and his condition worsened. He died because of his illness during the evening of 26 November 1933, only hours the team's victory in the away game against Blue Stars Zürich. He was 35 years old. Josef Haist then took over the job as head coach. Basel played a total of 46 matches in their 1933–34 season. 30 of these matches were in the domestic league Nationalliga, four in the Swiss Cup and 12 were friendly matches. FC Basel
Fussball Club Basel 1893, widely known as FC Basel, FCB, or just Basel, is a Swiss football club based in Basel, in the Canton of Basel-Stadt. Fussballclub Zürich, commonly abbreviated to FC Zürich or simply FCZ, is a Swiss football club based in Zürich. Vlastimil Borecký
Vlastimil Borecký (* 1 June 1907; † unknown) was a Czechoslovak footballer who played mainly in the position of midfielder. Later he became a club manager. Career Borecký started his youth football with local club Čechie Karlín. He later played for their first team for six seasons. Before the season 1930–31 he moved to France and played first for Stade Rennais and then for FC Antibes. He then moved to Wiener AC. In the three seasons between the years 1931 and 1934 Borecký played a total of 72 games for Basel scoring 4 goals. 40 of these games were in the Nationalliga, 12 were in the Swiss Cup and 19 were friendly games. Emil Hummel
Emil Hummel (born 1911; date of death unknown) was a German footballer who played for FC Basel. He played mainly in the position of defender. Between the years 1931 and 1938 Hummel played a total of 178 games for Basel scoring a total of 17 goals. 114 of these games were in the Swiss Serie A, 18 in the Swiss Cup. He scored 11 goals in the domestic league and five in the Swiss Cup. The other 46 games and the other goal scored were during the friendly/test games. Hummel was a member of the Basel team that won the Swiss Cup in the 1932–33 season. The final was played in the Hardturm stadium against Grasshopper Club. Basel won 4–3 and achieved the club's first ever national title. For the season 1938–1939 Hummel transferred to FC Kreuzlingen where he stayed for two years before ending his football career. Ernst Hufschmid (footballer)
Ernst Hufschmid (born 4 February 1913 in Basel – 30 November 2001 in Basel) was a Swiss footballer who played for Basel and Biel-Bienne. He also played for Switzerland in the 1934 FIFA World Cup. He played mainly in the position as midfielder, but in his later career also as defender. Club football Hufschmid played a total of 402 matches for Basel between 1929 and 1950. He scored 83 goals during this time. 268 of these games were in the Nationalliga, 53 in the Swiss Cup and 91 were friendly games. He scored 51 goals in the domestic league, 11 in the Swiss Cup and the other 22 were scored during the test games. He played for six months for Biel-Bienne in 11 games scoring one goal. Hermann Enderlin
Hermann Enderlin (* 24 September 1906; † 18 May 1973) was a Swiss-German footballer who played for FC Basel. He played mainly in the position of defender, but also as midfielder. He was known as Enderlin (II) because his brother Alfred Enderlin (I) played for Basel during the same period, but as a forward. Club career Between the years 1926 and 1935 Enderlin (II) played a total of 182 games for Basel scoring just one goal. 109 of these games were in the Swiss Serie A, twenty in the Swiss Cup and 53 were friendly games. He scored his only goal during the test game in Norway, in Porsgrunn, against Urædd FK on 9 June 1930. A well-documented curiosity was that at the end of Basel's 1929–30 season, the team set off on a Scandinavian football tour, including a visit to Germany. Josef Chloupek
Josef Chloupek (22 April 1908 – 11 January 1974) was an Austrian footballer who played as a defender in the late 1920s and 1930s. He played youth football by Floridsdorfer AC, joining their first team in 1927, and remained with them until 1931 before moving to FC Zürich. A year later he moved onto FC Basel, but because he was unable to obtain playing time, he moved to and played for Lugano for a few months. Chloupek then rejoined FC Basel's first team in the autumn of 1933. He played his domestic league debut for the club in the home game on 26 November 1933 as Basel won 5–1 against Blue Stars Zürich. He scored his only goal for his club on 7 April 1934 in the test game at the Landhof against VfB Leipzig as Basel were defeated 1–7. Robert Büchi (born 1910) was a Swiss footballer who played for St. Gallen and FC Basel during the 1930s. He played as defender Until 1933 Büchi played for St. Gallen. He joined Basel's first team during their 1932–33 season. He played his domestic league debut for the club in the home game at the Landhof on 10 September 1933 as Basel won 3–0 against La Chaux-de-Fonds. He scored his first and only league goal for his club on 13 September 1936 in the away game against Nordstern Basel as Basel won 3–1. Kurt Imhof
Kurt Imhof (* 1914; † unknown) was a Swiss footballer who played for FC Basel. He played in the position of goalkeeper. Between the years 1932 and 1935 and again between 1938 and 1947 Imhof played a total of 128 games for Basel. 85 of these games were in the Swiss Nationalliga, five were in the 1 Liga (second highest tier) and 15 were in the Swiss Cup. Federico Schott
Federico Schott (1910 – after 1938), known as Fritz Schott, was a Swiss footballer who played for FC Basel as a forward. In the 1933–34 season Schott played for Grasshopper Club. They ended the league season as runners-up and Schott scored 11 goals in 17 appearances. In the Swiss Cup the team advanced to the final, which was played un 2 April 1934 at Wankdorf Stadium, in Bern. Schott played in the final and in the 43rd minute he scored the first goal of the game as the Grasshoppers won by two goals to nil. During the following season Schott did not obtain as much playing time and so in the middle of the season he moved on to join Young Boys Bern. Schott joined Basel's first team for their 1935–36 season.
