Lia Manoliu
Lia Manoliu (; 25 April 1932 – 9 January 1998) was a Romanian discus thrower who won one gold and two bronze Olympic medals. She was the first track and field athlete to compete at six Olympics (1952–1972). Early life; sports and education As a teenager Manoliu competed at the national level in tennis, table tennis, volleyball and basketball, before turning to throwing events at the age of 16. Two years later she became the first Romanian woman to throw the disc over 40 m (41.44 m, 22 May 1950). In the mid-1950s she graduated from the Polytechnic Institute of Bucharest. International career At the 1952 Summer Olympics in Helsinki, Manoliu finished 6th with a throw of 42.64 m. She bettered this distance in 1956 in Melbourne, throwing 43.90 m for a ninth-place finish. At the 1960 Olympics in Rome, she held the lead after the first round with a throw of 52.36 m, and although she was unable to improve it, the throw was sufficient to earn her the bronze medal. Florin-Teodor Tănăsescu
Florin-Teodor Tănăsescu (born 12 April 1932) is a Romanian electrical engineer, professor at the Politehnica University of Bucharest. Early life Tănăsescu was born in Bârlad. His father, Dumitru Tănăsescu, was a lawyer, being also known for his hobby of beekeeping, apiculturist. His mother Cecilia Tănăsescu (born Dragomir (1902–1986) was teacher of history in Bârlad and Buzău. Florin-Teodor Tănăsescu studied engineering at the Faculty of Electrotehnics of the University Politehnica of Bucharest, Politechnic Institute of Bucharest graduating in 1956. He defended the thesis in the field of electrical measures for his doctorate in 1968, at the Gheorghe Asachi Technical University of Iaşi. Întreprinderea de Construcții Aeronautice Românești (ICAR, also icar) (Romanian Aeronautical Design Enterprise), was a Romanian aircraft manufacturer. The company produced aircraft of its own design and under license. History Întreprinderea de Construcții Aeronautice Românești was founded in Bucharest in 1932 by Mihail Racovitd. In 1938, it was planned to rename the company Uzinele I.C.A.R. — Societate Anonimd and move it to Transylvania. However, this never occurred. The German Party (german: Deutsche Partei in Rumänien; ro, Partidul German din România, ''PGR'') was a political party in post-World War I Romania, claiming to represent the entire ethnic German community in the country, at the time it was still a kingdom. Overview The German Party went through a rather lengthy period of creation. It was founded on the initiative of part of the ethnic German bourgeoisie at Timișoara on 6 September 1919, in advance of the November election. National Peasants' Party
The National Peasants' Party (also known as the National Peasant Party or National Farmers' Party; ro, Partidul Național Țărănesc, or ''Partidul Național-Țărănist'', PNȚ) was an agrarian political party in the Kingdom of Romania. It was formed in 1926 through the fusion of the Romanian National Party (PNR), a conservative-regionalist group centred on Transylvania, and the Peasants' Party (PȚ), which had coalesced the left-leaning agrarian movement in the Old Kingdom and Bessarabia. Criterion (literary Society)
The Criterion Association was a cultural group that held conferences, symposia, artistic events, and exhibitions in Bucharest, Romania, from 1932 to 1934. It was not the only such cultural group in Bucharest at the time but it attracted the most attention. Although its membership comprised many of the most promising minds of the Young Generation (the 1927 Generation), the Criterion Association was not limited to the Young Generation and therefore those two groups are not interchangeable, as they so often mistakenly are taken to be. __NOTOC__ Petru Comarnescu (born 23 November 1905, Iași - d. 27 November 1970, Bucharest) was a Romanian literary and art critic and translator. Born in Iași into a family that was related to the metropolitan bishop Veniamin Costache, he studied at the University of Bucharest law (degree in 1928), philosophy and philology (degree in 1929) before going in 1931 on a two-year scholarship to the United States of America, where he received a PhD in aesthetics from the University of Southern California, Los Angeles, with a thesis entitled ''The Nature of Beauty and Its Relation to Goodness'' (published later in Romanian in 1946 as ''Kalokagathon''). Together with Mircea Vulcănescu and Alexandru Christian Tell, he started the '' Criterion'' association and magazine in 1934.
