1930–31 Brentford F.C. Season
During the 1930–31 English football season, Brentford competed in the Football League Third Division South. Despite failing to challenge for promotion, the Bees finished in 3rd place and advanced to the fourth round of the FA Cup for the first time in four years. Season summary Brentford entered the 1930–31 Third Division South season with largely the same personnel which secured a runners-up finish the previous year. The only significant signing was goalkeeper Edward Nash from Swindon Town in September 1930, to cover for Freddie Fox, from whom Nash would take over the goalkeeping position during the second half of the season. Brentford is a suburban town in West London, England and part of the London Borough of Hounslow. It lies at the confluence of the River Brent and the Thames, west of Charing Cross. Jack Lane
John William Lane (29 May 1898 – June 1984) was an English professional footballer who played as an inside right. He is best remembered for his five years in the Football League with Brentford, for whom he made 234 appearances and was club captain. He was posthumously inducted into the Brentford Hall of Fame in 2015. Club career Burnley An inside forward, Lane began his career at hometown non-League club Cradley Heath. He secured a move to the top flight of English football with Burnley in December 1920 and made his professional debut during the club's Championship-winning 1920–21 season. Frederick Gamble (cricketer)
Frederick Charles Gamble (29 May 1905 – 15 May 1965) was an English footballer and cricketer. Gamble was a right-handed batsman who bowled right-arm medium pace. He was born in Charing Cross, London. Gamble originally played Minor Counties Championship cricket for the Leicestershire Second XI. He later made his first-class debut for Surrey in the 1933 County Championship against Oxford University at The Oval. Gamble played first-class cricket for Surrey from 1933 to 1935, making 19 first-class appearances, the last of which came against Oxford University. A bowler, he took 40 first-class wickets at a bowling average of 38.87, with best figures of 4/82. After being an infrequent member of the Surrey team, Gamble was relegated to the Second XI, who he played for until 1937. He later played for Devon in the 1939 Minor Counties Championship. A hat-trick or hat trick is the achievement of a generally positive feat three times in a match, or another achievement based on the number three. George Chippendale Robson (17 June 1905 – 1982) was an English professional footballer who played as an inside right, most notably for Brentford and Heart of Midlothian in the 1930s. He later became a scout at former club West Ham United. Playing career Newcastle United An inside right, Robson joined hometown First Division club Newcastle United in 1925, but failed to make an appearance for the first team before departing in 1928. West Ham United Robson signed for First Division club West Ham United in 1928. He made his debut for the Hammers on the final day of the 1927–28 season in a 3–1 defeat to former club Newcastle United. The Football League First Division was a division of the Football League in England from 1888 until 2004. It was the top division in the English football league system from the season 1888–89 until 1991–92, a century in which the First Division's winning club became English men's football champions.
