1930 World Ice Hockey Championships
The 1930 Ice Hockey World Championships were held between January 30 and February 10, 1930, in Chamonix, France, Vienna, Austria, and Berlin, Germany. This event was the first world championships independent of hockey at the Olympics. Canada, represented by the Toronto CCMs, beat the German team in the gold medal match by a score of 6 to 1 to win the title. Germany won their first European Championship, defeating Switzerland in Berlin two to one. The lone game in Vienna was played to determine the European Bronze, Austria shutout Poland two to zero to round out the medals. Final tournament Final The tournament was a direct knock-out playoff. The men's ice hockey tournament at the 1928 Winter Olympics in St. Moritz, Switzerland, was the third Olympic Championship, also serving as the third World Championships and the 13th European Championships. Canada, represented by the University of Toronto Graduates, won its third consecutive gold medal. Highest finishing European team Sweden won the silver medal and its third European Championship. Conn Smythe coached the Graduates to the 1927 Allan Cup championship during the Ontario Hockey Association season, but refused to go to the Olympics due to disagreements on which players were added to the team by the Canadian Olympic Committee. IIHF Men's World Ice Hockey Championships
The International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF; french: Fédération internationale de hockey sur glace; german: Internationale Eishockey-Föderation) is a worldwide governing body for ice hockey. It is based in Zurich, Switzerland, and has 83 member countries. The IIHF maintains the IIHF World Ranking based on international ice hockey tournaments. Rules of play for IIHF events differ from hockey in North America and the rules of the National Hockey League (NHL). Decisions of the IIHF can be appealed through the Court of Arbitration for Sport in Lausanne, Switzerland. The IIHF maintains its own hall of fame for international ice hockey. The IIHF Hall of Fame was founded in 1997, and has been located within the Hockey Hall of Fame since 1998. Leslie William Allen (born 4 September 1937) is an English former association football, football player and manager who played as an inside forward. Playing career Allen started his playing career at amateur club Briggs Sports F.C., Briggs Sports where he helped them to reach the semi-finals of the Amateur Cup in 1954. In the same year Allen signed for Chelsea F.C., Chelsea on his 17th birthday in September 1954 but never established his place in the Chelsea first-team. Joe Griffin (ice Hockey)
Joseph Griffin (born ) is an American former basketball player for Long Island University (LIU) between 1990–91 and 1994–95. He was and played the small forward position. During his career as a Blackbird, Griffin scored 1,830 points, which is still the most all-time in school history. He was twice named to the All-Northeast Conference First Team, and as a senior in 1994–95 Griffin led the conference in scoring at 25.8 points per game. Griffin was subsequently named the Northeast Conference Men's Basketball Player of the Year and was the recipient of the coveted Haggerty Award, which is given annually to the best male collegiate basketball player in the greater New York City area. In 2010, he was inducted into the Long Island University Athletic Hall of Fame.
