1927 World Figure Skating Championships
The World Figure Skating Championships is an annual figure skating competition sanctioned by the International Skating Union in which figure skaters compete for the title of World Champion. Men's competitions took place from February 5th to 6th in Davos, Switzerland. Ladies' competitions took place from February 19th to 20th in Oslo, Norway. Karl Schäfer (figure Skater)
Karl Schäfer (17 May 1909 – 23 April 1976) was an Austrian figure skater and swimmer. In figure skating, he became a two-time Olympic champion at the 1932 Winter Olympics and the 1936 Winter Olympics. He was also a seven-time World champion (1930–1936) and eight-time European champion (1929–1936). As a swimmer, he competed at the 1928 Summer Olympics in the 200 metre breaststroke. Early life and skating career Karl Schäfer was born not far from the artificial ice rink of Eduard Engelmann Jr. in Vienna-Hernals. Figure skating coach Rudolf Kutzer first recognized Schäfer's talent when he was 11 years old. Arne Christiansen (19 May 1926 – 23 January 2012) was a Norwegian judge. He was born in Oslo. He enrolled in law studies in 1945, and graduated with the cand.jur. degree in 1949. He worked as a sub-director in the Ministry of Justice and the Police from 1964 to 1969, presiding judge in Eidsivating from 1970 to 1974 and as a Supreme Court Justice from 1974 to 1996. Ellen Brockhöft, née Rehra, (29 April 1893 – 19 December 1977) was a German figure skater. Competing in ladies' singles, she was a two-time world silver medalist and a seven-time German national champion. She represented Germany at the 1928 Winter Olympics and finished ninth. Brockhöft was a member of Berliner Schlittschuhclub. During her skating career she claimed to be younger than her real age, believing this would help her career. Fritz Kachler was an Austrian figure skater. He was the 1912, 1913, and 1923 World champion and the 1914 & 1924 European champion. He did not believe that sport and nationalism should be mixed and therefore chose not to participate in the Olympic Games of 1920 and 1924. He acted as a judge in the World Figure Skating Championships of 1926 (Men, Pairs), 1927 (Men) and 1937 (Women).
