The 1927 season of the Mitropa Cup football club tournament was won by Sparta Prague in a final against Rapid Wien. This was the inaugural edition of the tournament. František Svoboda
František Svoboda (5 August 1906 – 6 July 1948) was a Czech football player who played as a striker. His nickname was "Franci" (the French). Club career He started his career with Vinohrady Rapid, from where he moved to Slavia Prague in 1926, and with them he was the Champions of Czechoslovakia 8 times, played a pivotal role in helping the club to win 8 national league titles, scoring 101 league goals in his 14 years at the club and being the top goalscorer of the 1934–35 season with 27 goals. He remained in Slavia until 1940, after which he succeeded Viktoria Zizkov. Svoboda enjoyed great fame in his playing days, being a respected and feared striker throughout Europe. Svoboda was a very strong and muscular player, but despite being robust in stature, his movement was elegant and he excelled especially at rocket shots even from great distances, becoming known for his goals from long range. Josef Kratochvíl
Josef Kratochvíl known as Kráťa (9 February 1905 – 8 July 1984) was a Czechoslovak footballer. He played 20 games and scored 4 goals for the Czechoslovakia national football team. He was also part of Czechoslovakia's squad at the 1924 Olympics, but he did not play in any matches. At the end of his active football career Kratochvíl moved to Switzerland in 1931. He joined FC Basel's first team during their 1931–32 season soon after Otto Haftl had taken over as coach. Haftl and Kratochvíl had played together for Teplitzer FK in 1930. Kratochvíl played just two matches for Basel, the first being the test match on New Year's Day 1932 as the team lost 3–4 against Freiburger FC. Johann "Hans" Horvath (20 May 1903 – 30 July 1968) was an Austrian footballer. Normally a forward, Horvath was one of the most noted Austrian footballers of his generation, and was well–known for his passing ability and technique.
