The 1927 Duluth Eskimos season was the Eskimos' final season in the NFL. Coached by Ernie Nevers, the Eskimos finished with a 1–8 record. The team scored 68 points and allowed 134. Ole Haugsrud
Oluf Roy Haugsrud (May 13, 1899 – March 13, 1976) was an American sports executive. Haugsrud was born in Superior, Wisconsin. Haugsrud was owner of the Duluth Eskimos of the National Football League (NFL) in the late-1920s. His signing of Ernie Nevers and having the Eskimos barnstorm, is credited as helping grow the league at critical time. He later sold the team back to the NFL. Part of the deal was that he would have first rights to any future NFL team in the state of Minnesota. Though he passed on a stake in the Minneapolis Red Jackets in 1929, when the NFL expanded to Minneapolis–Saint Paul in January 1960, Haugsrud was given 10% ownership. He remained part owner of the Minnesota Vikings until his death in 1976. Haugsrud was the senior nominee for the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1973. He was not elected. Clem Neacy
Clement Francis "Clem" Neacy (July 18, 1898 – March 19, 1968) was an American football end and tackle in the National Football League. He played professionally for the Milwaukee Badgers, Duluth Eskimos, Chicago Bears, and the Chicago Cardinals. Early life Neacy was born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. He played college football at Colgate University and the University of Wisconsin–Milwaukee. He graduated from Colgate University in 1924, Professional career In 1924, he began playing in the NFL with the Milwaukee Badgers. He played five seasons in the NFL, playing his last game with the Milwaukee Badgers in 1928. 1927 Chicago Bears Season
The 1927 season was the Chicago Bears' 8th in the National Football League. The team was unable to improve on their 12–1–3 record from 1926 and finished with a 9–3–2 record under head coach George Halas earning them a third-place finish in the team standings behind the New York Giants and the Green Bay Packers. Notable games during this season were a split of the season series with the New York Yankees, led by former and future Bear Red Grange, a split of the season's games against crosstown rivals Chicago Cardinals, two wins over the Green Bay Packers, and, oddest of all, a win and a tie over the Frankford Yellowjackets. What makes the games with Frankford so notable is they were played back to back on December 3 and 4, with the first game in Frankford and the second in Chicago. Ernie Nevers
Ernest Alonzo Nevers (June 11, 1902 – May 3, 1976), sometimes known by the nickname "Big Dog", was an American football and baseball player and football coach. Widely regarded as one of the best football players in the first half of the 20th century, he played as a fullback and was a triple-threat man known for his talents in running, passing, and kicking. He was inducted with the inaugural classes of inductees into both the College Football Hall of Fame in 1951 and the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1963. He was also named in 1969 to the NFL 1920s All-Decade Team.
