Gus Tebell
Gustave Kenneth Tebell (September 6, 1897 – May 28, 1969) was an American football, basketball, and baseball player, coach, and college athletics administrator. From 1925 to 1929, he coached football at North Carolina State University, where he compiled a 21–25–2 record. From 1934 to 1936, he coached at the University of Virginia, where he compiled a 6–18–4 record. From 1930 to 1951, he served as the head men's basketball coach at Virginia, achieving his first championship in just his second year. During that tenure, he compiled a 240–190 record, including a NIT berth in 1941. His 240 wins rank fourth in school history. In 1951 he became Athletic Director. Tebell also coached baseball at Virginia from 1941 to 1943 and from 1945 to 1955. Tebell played football and basketball at the University of Wisconsin–Madison, University of Wisconsin. 1926 Southern Conference Football Season
The 1926 Southern Conference football season was the college football games played by the member schools of the Southern Conference as part of the 1926 college football season. The season began on September 18. In the annual Rose Bowl game, the SoCon champion Alabama Crimson Tide tied the PCC champion, and #1 ranked team under the Dickinson System, Stanford 7–7. Alabama and Stanford therefore were amongst those named a national champion. Alabama guard Fred Pickhard was the Rose Bowl game's MVP. Robert Neyland was hired to coach Tennessee in 1926 by Nathan Dougherty with the explicit goal to "even the score with Vanderbilt." NC State–Wake Forest Rivalry
The NC State–Wake Forest rivalry is a series of athletic contests between in-state rivals, the North Carolina State University Wolfpack and the Wake Forest University Demon Deacons. The first game was played in 1895 between the two institutions. Wake Forest was originally located in Wake Forest, North Carolina (approximately 18 miles NNE of NCSU's campus in Raleigh) until it moved its campus across the state of North Carolina to Winston-Salem, North Carolina in 1956. The two universities are members of the Atlantic Coast Conference, where they meet every year in football due to being aligned in the Atlantic Division.
