1926 Army Cadets Football Team
The 1926 Army Cadets football team represented the United States Military Academy in the 1926 college football season. In their first season under head coach Biff Jones, the Cadets compiled a record, shut out four of their nine opponents, and outscored all opponents by a combined total of 240 to 71. In the annual Army–Navy Game, the Cadets tied the Midshipmen at 21. The team's only loss came to Notre Dame by a 7 to 0 score. The team was ranked No. 11 in the nation in the Dickinson System ratings released in December 1926. Four Army players were recognized on the All-America team. Tackle Bud Sprague was a consensus first-team honoree with first-team designations from the Associated Press (AP) and the Central Press Association (CP). Biff Jones
Lawrence McCeney "Biff" Jones (October 8, 1895 – February 12, 1980) was an American football player, coach, and college athletics administrator. He served as a head coach at the United States Military Academy, Louisiana State University (LSU), the University of Oklahoma, and the University of Nebraska, compiling a career record of 87–33–15. Jones was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame as a coach in 1954. Coaching career Biff Jones graduated from the U. S. Military Academy at West Point in 1917, and served as an artillery lieutenant in France during the rest of World War I. Walter Camp
Walter Chauncey Camp (April 7, 1859 – March 14, 1925) was an American football player, coach, and sports writer known as the "Father of American Football". Among a long list of inventions, he created the sport's line of scrimmage and the system of downs. With John Heisman, Amos Alonzo Stagg, Pop Warner, Fielding H. Yost, and George Halas, Camp was one of the most accomplished persons in the early history of American football. He attended Yale College, where he played and coached college football. Camp's Yale teams of 1888, 1891, and 1892 have been recognized as national champions. Camp was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame as a coach during 1951. Camp wrote articles and books on the gridiron and sports in general, annually publishing an "All-American" team. By the time of his death, he had written nearly 30 books and more than 250 magazine articles. The Yale Bowl Stadium is a college football stadium in the northeast United States, located in New Haven, Connecticut, on the border of West Haven, about 1½ miles (2½ km) west of the main campus of Yale University. The 1926 Yale Bulldogs football team represented Yale University in the 1926 college football season. The Bulldogs finished with a 4–4 record under ninth-year head coach Tad Jones. Neither the Associated Press nor ''Collier's Weekly'' selected any Yale players for their 1926 College Football All-America Teams. However, Yale guard Herbert Sturhahn was named a first-team All-American for 1926 by the All-American Board composed of three coaches, Knute Rockne, Glenn Scobey Warner and Yale's Tad Jones. Sturhahn was also later inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame.
