1925–26 National Hurling League
The 1925–26 National Hurling League was the first edition of the National Hurling League, which ran from 27 September 1925 until 16 May 1926. The seven participating teams in Division 1 were Cork, Dublin, Galway, Kilkenny, Laois, Limerick and Tipperary who agreed to play a six game format whereby each team would play each of their six rivals once with two points awarded for a win and one point awarded for a drawn game. The two teams with most points at the completion of the season would play a final, with the winners being declared National Hurling League champions. Cork defeated Dublin by 3-7 to 1-5 in the final. Cork also won the All-Ireland Championship in 1926, the first time that a team completed the league-championship double. Seán Óg Murphy
John Francis "Seán Óg" Murphy (17 September 1892 – 11 June 1956) was an Irish Hurling, hurler who played as a full-back for the Cork GAA, Cork senior team. Born in Cork (city), Merchant Street, Cork, Murphy first played competitive hurling during his schooling at the The North Monastery, North Monastery. He arrived on the inter-county scene at the age of fifteen when he first linked up with the Cork senior team. He made his debut in the 1914 All-Ireland Senior Hurling Championship, 1914 championship. Murphy went on to play a key role for the next fifteen years, and won three All-Ireland Senior Hurling Championship, All-Ireland medals and six Munster Senior Hurling Championship, Munster medals. An All-Ireland runner-up on three occasions, Murphy also captained the team to All-Ireland victory in 1926 and 1928. Waterford County Hurling Team
The Waterford county hurling team represents Waterford in hurling and is governed by Waterford GAA, the county board of the Gaelic Athletic Association. The team competes in the three major annual inter-county competitions; the All-Ireland Senior Hurling Championship, the Munster Senior Hurling Championship and the National Hurling League. Waterford's home grounds are Walsh Park, Waterford, and Fraher Field, Dungarvan. The team's manager is Davy Fitzgerald. Cork Athletic Grounds
The Cork Athletic Grounds was a Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA) stadium where major hurling and football matches were played. Situated in the Ballintemple area of Cork in Ireland, it was the home of Cork GAA between 1904 and 1974. The stadium was demolished in 1974 and replaced by Páirc Uí Chaoimh. History In late 1902 an attempt was made by the Cork County Board of the GAA to provide Cork city with a dedicated athletic stadium. A new company, the Cork Athletic Grounds Committee Ltd., was established under the chairmanship of James Crosbie. The county board invested £30 in the venture and a member of the board was appointed as a director. The subscriptions for the share capital reached sufficient funds, and in early 1903 a lease for six acres was drawn up between the Cork Agricultural Society, the Cork Corporation and the Cork County Board treasurer John FitzGerald.
