Music Of Norway
Much has been learned about early music in Norway from physical artifacts found during archaeological digs. These include instruments such as the lur. Viking and medieval sagas also describe musical activity, as do the accounts of priests and pilgrims from all over Europe coming to visit St Olaf's grave in Trondheim. In the later part of the 19th century, Norway experienced economic growth leading to greater industrialization and urbanization. More music was made in the cities, and opera performances and symphony concerts were considered to be of high standards. In this era both prominent composers (like Edvard Grieg and Johan Svendsen) and performers combined the European traditions with Norwegian tones. The import of music and musicians for dance and entertainment grew, and this continued in the 20th century, even more so when gramophone records and radio became common. Arnstein Johansen
Arnstein Johansen (June 19, 1925 – September 26, 2013) was a Norwegian accordionist that played jazz and old-fashioned dances. He became well-known through his recordings and his international collaboration. Life Johansen was born in Fredrikstad. He studied under Ottar E. Akre, Thorleif Ekren, and Gunnar Sønstevold, and also at the Norwegian Academy of Music. After the Second World War, he played in a duet with Rolf Andersen, and then spent time in the United States, playing with Pietro Frosini, Guido Deiro, and Anthony Galla-Rini. He released a number of albums as a solo artist and with the Arnstein Johansen Quartet (''Arnstein Johansen kvartett''), later quintet: ''Gammeldans'' (Old-Fashioned Dances), ''Hæla i taket'' (Party Hardy), ''A.J.'s freskeste'' (A. The ''Great Norwegian Encyclopedia'' ( no, Store Norske Leksikon, abbreviated ''SNL''), is a Norwegian-language online encyclopedia. The online encyclopedia is among the most-read Norwegian published sites, with more than two million unique visitors per month. Ingebrigt Davik
Ingebrigt Davik (14 April 1925 – 29 January 1991) was a Norwegian teacher, children's writer, broadcasting personality, singer and songwriter. Biography Davik was from the island Fjørtofta in Haram municipality on Sunnmøre. He was the son of Nils Johan Gerhard Davik (1888–1954) and Johanna Josefine Inga Olsdatter Fjørtoft (1888–1959). The family moved to Brattvåg when he was 6 years old. He trained as a teacher at Hamar and later as a music educator. He also studied drama at Rogaland Teater in Stavanger. He worked for the Norwegian Broadcasting Corporation from 1959, and made children's programs both for radio and television. Hjalmar Borgstrøm
Hjalmar Borgstrøm (23 March 1864 – 5 July 1925) was a Norwegian composer and music critic who played a prominent role in the musical life of his country in the first quarter of the 20th century. Biography He was born Hjalmar Jensen on 23 March 1864 in Kristiania (now Oslo).In 1887 he changed his surname to Borgstrøm, which had been his mother's maiden name. His father, Carl Christian Jensen, was a civil servant and the family were keen amateur musicians. Borgstrøm showed an early aptitude for music and by the age of fifteen was a talented violinist. After studying composition and music theory in Oslo with Johan Svendsen and Ludvig Mathias Lindeman, he went to the Leipzig Conservatory in Germany for two years.
