George W

Nebraska House Of Representatives
The Nebraska House of Representatives was the lower house of the Nebraska Legislature during the days when Nebraska Territory, Nebraska was a territory from 1854 to 1867 and then again when Nebraska was a state from 1867 until 1937. In 1934, Nebraska voters amended the Nebraska Constitution to reconfigure the Nebraska Legislature to a unicameralism, unicameral system. This system became effective for the 1937 legislative session. Beginning as a territorial lower house in 1854, it had 26 members; this number was raised to 39 members at the time of the first state constitution's promulgation in 1866, and the second state constitution in 1875 limited membership in the House at 100 members, a limit which would be filled by 1881. The last representatives were elected to a two-year term in 1934 and began their service with the final legislative session in 1935. Fred Gustus Johnson (October 16, 1876 – April 30, 1951) was a Nebraska Republican politician. Born on a farm near Dorchester, Nebraska on October 16, 1876, his father was a native of Sweden. Graduated from Dorchester High School in 1893 and from the University of Nebraska–Lincoln College of Law in 1903 and admitted to the bar in the same year. He set up practice in his home town Dorchester, also doing a little farming on the side. He moved to Oxford, Nebraska in 1909, and to Hastings, Nebraska in 1911 still practicing law. He was a delegate to the Republican State convention from 1900 to 1938. He was elected a member of the Nebraska state house of representatives from 1907 to 1909 and again from 1917 to 1919. The lieutenant governor of Nebraska is the highest-ranking executive official in the State of Nebraska after the governor. According to the Nebraska State Constitution, in the event a governor dies, becomes permanently incapacitated, resigns, or is removed from office, the lieutenant governor will become governor. Charles Henry Sloan (May 2, 1863 – June 2, 1946) was an American Republican Party politician. Biography Born in Monticello, Iowa on May 2, 1863, he graduated from Iowa State Agricultural College (now Iowa State University) at Ames, Iowa in 1884. He moved to Fairmont, Nebraska and became the city schools superintendent from 1884 to 1887. He studied law and was admitted to the bar in 1887. He started practice in Fairmont but then moved to Geneva, Nebraska in 1891. He became the director of the Geneva State Bank and then the prosecuting attorney of Fillmore County from 1890 to 1894.
