Lev Kulidzhanov
Lev Aleksandrovich Kulidzhanov (russian: Лев Александрович Кулиджанов; 19 March 1924 – 17 February 2002) was a Soviet and Russian film director, screenwriter and professor at the Gerasimov Institute of Cinematography. He was the head of the Union of Cinematographers of the USSR (1965—1986). People's Artist of the USSR (1976). He directed a total of twelve films between 1955 and 1994. Biography Born on 19 March 1924 (according to other sources including his tomb — on 19 August 1923) in Tiflis, Transcaucasian SFSR. His father Aleksandr Nikolayevich Kulidzhanov (originally Kulidzhanyan) was an Armenian revolutionary who served as a high-ranking Communist Party official. He was arrested during the Great Purge of 1937 and disappeared without a trace. Kulidzhanov's mother Yekaterina Dmitriyevna was either of Russian or of Armenian descent. Praskovya Uvarova
Countess Praskovya Sergeevna Uvarova (Russian: Прасковья Сергеевна Уварова), Princess Scherbatova (Щербатова); 9 April 1840, Bobriki, Kharkov Governorate – 30 June 1924, Dobrna, Slovenia) was a Russian archaeologist. In 1885, she became chairman of the and held that post until 1917. Life Uvarova was the daughter of Sergey Alexandrovich (1800-1864) and Princess Praskovya Borisovna (née Svyatopolk-Chetvertinskaya) (1818-1899). In the course of her education, she mastered French, German and English. In 1859, at 18, she married Count Aleksey Sergeyevich Uvarov (1818–1885), founder and chairman of the of Moscow and the historical museum. Soon after the wedding, the couple traveled to Rome, Naples and Florence where Uvarova introduced her husband to the splendors of Europe. The title Hero of the Soviet Union (russian: Герой Советского Союза, translit=Geroy Sovietskogo Soyuza) was the highest distinction in the Soviet Union, awarded together with the Order of Lenin personally or collectively for heroic feats in service to the Soviet state and society. Overview The award was established on 16 April 1934, by the Central Executive Committee of the Soviet Union. The first recipients of the title originally received only the Order of Lenin, the highest Soviet award, along with a certificate (грамота, ''gramota'') describing the heroic deed from the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR. Nikolai Nagibin
Nikolai Anisimovich Nagibin (Russian: Николай Анисимович Нагибин; 1924 – 25 January 1945) was a Red Army soldier and posthumous Hero of the Soviet Union. He was awarded the title Hero of the Soviet Union and the Order of Lenin for his usage of a machine gun to hold a bridgehead over the Oder during the Vistula–Oder Offensive in January 1945. Early life Nagibin was born in 1924 in the village of Terehta in Altai Krai to a peasant family. He graduated from fifth grade and worked on a collective farm. World War II In 1941, Nagibin was drafted into the Red Army and fought in combat from February 1942. He became a driver in the 371st Artillery Regiment of the 140th Rifle Division by the spring of 1944. Violetta Elvin ( Prokhorova; 3 November 1923 – 27 May 2021) was a Russian prima ballerina and actress. In 1986, ''The Times'' described Elvin as "the only rival ever to give Dame Margot Fonteyn a run for her money". Early life Elvin was born on 3 November 1923 in Moscow, and graduated from the Moscow State Dance School in 1942. She was the daughter of Irena Grimouzinskaya, an actor and artist, and Vassilie Prokhorov, an aviation pioneer. Career Elvin was only 20 when she had already danced the leads in Swan Lake, Marius Petipa's Don Quixote, and The Fountain of Bakhchisarai with the State Ballet of Tashkent. Georgy Khosroevich Shakhnazarov ( hy, Գեորգի Շահնազարով; October 4, 1924 in Baku, Azerbaijan SSR, Transcaucasian SFSR, Soviet Union – May 15, 2001 in Tula, Russia) was a Soviet politician and political scientist.
