Gino Scarpa
Gino Scarpa (8 November 1924 – 4 December 2022) was an Italian-born Norwegian painter, printmaker, sculptor and mountaineer. Scarpa was born in Venice, where he also grew up, to inspector Silvio Scarpa and Linda Gaggio. He studied architecture in Venice, and printmaking in Malmö. He worked several years as mountain guide in the Dolomites, until he moved to Copenhagen in 1958, where he established himself as a full-time artist. He moved to Oslo in 1970, and became a Norwegian citizen in 1978. He is represented in the National Gallery of Norway with the painting ''Daggry'' from 1978, as well as prints. He is represented in the Norwegian Museum of Contemporary Art in Oslo with the sculptures ''Signum'' (1972) and ''Bølge'' (1973). Rosario Mazzola
Rosario Mazzola (19 September 1924 – 24 December 2018) was an Italian prelate of the Roman Catholic Church who served as bishop of Cefalù from 1988 to 2000. Life Mazzola studied at the seminary of Palermo. He was ordained a priest on 16 July 1950, by Ernesto Ruffini, archbishop of Palermo and future cardinal. After he worked as a parson, Mazzola was appointed auxiliary bishop of Palermo in June 1982. He was consecrated on 4 September 1982 by Cardinal Salvatore Pappalardo. Lucy Salani
Lucy Salani (12 August 1924 – 22 March 2023) was an Italian activist and the only known Italian transgender person to have survived the Nazi concentration camps. Born in Fossano and raised in Bologna, Salani was understood to be a gay man before undergoing gender-affirming surgery later in her life. An anti-fascist, Salani deserted both the fascist Italian and the Nazi German armies during World War II before being caught and deported to Dachau concentration camp in 1944, where she remained until the liberation of the camp by the United States Armed Forces in April 1945. Following her liberation and the end of the war, Salani lived in Rome, Turin and Paris before completing her transition in London. She then returned to Bologna in the 1980s, eventually spending the rest of her life in the city. Antonio Maccanico
Antonio Maccanico (4 August 1924 – 23 April 2013) was an Italian constitutional specialist and social liberal politician, who served in various capacities in the parliament and federal administrations of Italy. Early life and education Maccanico was born on 4 August 1924 in Avellino. He graduated in law at the University of Pisa in 1946. Career Maccanico began his career at the house of deputies as a referendary in June 1947. He worked in different commissions in the house. He also served as the general secretary in the office of the Italian President Sandro Pertini for nine years. He was the president of Italian investment bank, Mediobanca, from 1987 to 1988 which was privatised during his term. He succeeded Enrico Cuccia in the aforementioned post. Carlo Bergonzi (13 July 1924 – 25 July 2014) was an Italian operatic tenor. Although he performed and recorded some bel canto and verismo roles, he was above all associated with the operas of Giuseppe Verdi, including many of the composer's lesser known works he helped revive.
