1924 Colorado Silver And Gold Football Team
The 1924 Colorado Silver and Gold football team was an American football team that represented the University of Colorado as a member of the Rocky Mountain Conference (RMC) during the 1924 college football season. In its fifth year under head coach Myron E. Witham, the team compiled an 8–1–1 record (5–0–1 against RMC opponents), won the conference championship, was not scored upon during the regular season, lost a postseason game to undefeated Hawaii in the Poi Bowl, and outscored all opponents by a total of 237 to 13. The team's string of nine consecutive shutouts remains the longest in program history. On October 11, 1924, the team played its first game at the newly-constructed Colorado Stadium. The Rocky Mountain Showdown is the name given to the Colorado–Colorado State football rivalry. It is an American college football intrastate rivalry between the University of Colorado Buffaloes and the Colorado State University Rams; the winner of the game receives the Centennial Cup. It began in 1893 and was played annually from 1899 to 1958, except for 1901, 1905, and 1943–44. It was revived in 1983 and played periodically until it became an annual rivalry once again from 1995 to 2019. Since 1998, the game has usually been played in Denver at Mile High Stadium and its replacement, Empower Field at Mile High, although the 2004, 2005, and 2009 games were played at CU's Folsom Field in Boulder. The Rumble in the Rockies, or Colorado–Utah football rivalry, is an American college football rivalry between the University of Colorado Buffaloes from Boulder and the University of Utah Utes of Salt Lake City. After nearly five decades of dormancy, the rivalry was revived in 2011, when both joined the Pac-12 Conference. From 1903 until 1962, Utah and Colorado played each other nearly every year, a total of 57 games. At that time, it was the second-most played rivalry for both teams (Utah had played Utah State 62 times; Colorado had played Colorado State 61 times). 1924 Utah Utes Football Team
The 1924 Utah Utes football team was an American football team that represented the University of Utah as a member of the Rocky Mountain Conference (RMC) during the 1924 college football season. Led by Thomas M. Fitzpatrick in his sixth and final season as head coach, the Utes compiled an overall of record of 3–4–1 with a mark of 2–2–1 in conference play, tying for sixth place in the RMC. Prior to the 1924 season, Fitzpatrick announced his intention to retire and pursue other business opportunities, but he agreed to coach through the end of the 1924 season. Utah opened the season at home on October 4 against Drake, their first opponent from east of the Rocky Mountains. Ike Armstrong, and assistant coach for Drake, expressed interest in the head coaching position at Utah and was hired. He coached the Utes for 25 season and had a record of 141–55–15.
