The 1924 Central Michigan Normalites football team represented Central Michigan Normal School, later renamed Central Michigan University, as an independent during the 1924 college football season. In their first season under head coach Lester Barnard, the Central Michigan football team compiled a 7–1 record, shut out six of eight opponents, and outscored all opponents by a combined total of 158 to 19. Lester Barnard
Lester Smith Barnard (October 25, 1894 – June 1, 1985) was an American football, basketball, baseball, and track coach. He served as the head football coach at West Tennessee Normal State School—now known as the University of Memphis—from 1922 to 1923 and Central Michigan University from 1924 to 1925, compiling a career college football coaching record of 22–7–6. The 1925 Central Michigan Dragons football team represented Central Michigan Normal School, later renamed Central Michigan University, as an independent during the 1925 college football season. In their second and final season under head coach Lester Barnard, the Central Michigan football team compiled a 4–1–3 record, shut out six of eight opponents, and outscored all opponents by a combined total of 93 to 20. The team's victories included games against Northern State Teachers (8-0), Valparaiso (41-0), and Detroit City College (18–6). It played three scoreless ties (Detroit frosh, Western State Teachers, and Albion), and its sole loss was to Alma College by a 14–0 score. After the 1925 season, Lester Barnard resigned as the team's head football coach and accepted a coaching position at Kalamazoo College, where his twin brother Chester was also a coach. Central Michigan University
Central Michigan University (CMU) is a public research university in Mount Pleasant, Michigan. Established in 1892 as the Central Michigan Normal School and Business Institute, the private normal school became a state institution and renamed Central State Normal School in 1895 after the Michigan State Board of Education took over governance of the school. The 1924 college football season was the year of the Four Horsemen as the Notre Dame team, coached by Knute Rockne, won all of its games, including the Rose Bowl, to be acclaimed as the best team in the nation. Notre Dame and Stanford were both unbeaten at season's end, with the Fighting Irish winning the Rose Bowl contest 27–10. The Penn Quakers were retroactively awarded a national championship by Parke H. Davis. Red Grange's Illinois team upset Michigan. Albion Britons Football
Albion College is a private liberal arts college in Albion, Michigan. The college was founded in 1835 and its undergraduate population was approximately 1,500 students in 2014. Albion is a city in Calhoun County in the south central region of the Lower Peninsula of the U.S. state of Michigan. Central Michigan–Eastern Michigan Football Rivalry
The Central Michigan–Eastern Michigan football rivalry is an annual college football game between Central Michigan University (CMU) and Eastern Michigan University (EMU). The football series between the two universities dates back to 1902 and is the oldest rivalry in the Mid-American Conference (MAC), having begun five years before the Central Michigan–Western Michigan rivalry and six years before the Miami–Ohio rivalry. With 100 games having been played, it is also the most frequently-played series between MAC schools. Michigan State Normal, as EMU was then known, dominated the series in the first 25 meetings, compiling a record of 14–8–3 from 1902 to 1936.
