Charles Whelan
Charles "Doc" Whelan (April 3, 1877 – May 29, 1945) was an American football player and coach and physician. He served as the head football coach at Tufts College—now Tufts University—for three stints (1903–1907, 1912–1917, and 1919) and at Boston University from 1921 to 1925, compiling a career college football record of 54–68–7. Whelan also coached track at Harvard University. He died after a brief illness in 1945. Early life Whelan was born on April 3, 1877, in Weymouth, Massachusetts. He graduated from Weymouth High School in 1896 and entered Dartmouth College that fall. He left after one year to work in Boston, but returned a year later and graduated in 1901. While at Dartmouth, Whelan played fullback on the school's football team and specialized in the broad jump and the shotput on the track team. Memorial Field (Dartmouth)
Memorial Field is a football stadium located in Hanover, New Hampshire, United States. It is the home of Dartmouth Big Green football and outdoor track teams. The athletic teams at Dartmouth College compete in the Ivy League. In 1893, Dartmouth alumni built a football field called Alumni Oval in the southeastern part of the campus. The field's original wooden grandstand, which backed up on Crosby Street, burned in 1911. In 1923, the College built Memorial Field, with a brick-faced concrete stand and press box on Crosby Street. The stadium opened as a memorial to the students and alumni who had served and died in World War I. The 1924 Dartmouth Indians football team was an American football team that represented Dartmouth College as an independent during the 1924 college football season. In their second season under head coach Jesse Hawley, the Indians compiled a 7–0–1 record, shut out five of eight opponents, and outscored opponents by a total of 225 to 31. Dartmouth's 1924 season was part of a 22-game unbeaten streak that began in November 1923 and continued until October 1926. Henry Bjorkman was the team captain. Andy Oberlander was the team's leading scorer with 60 points scored on 10 touchdowns. R. B. Hall added 42 points on 7 touchdowns. Michie Stadium is an outdoor football stadium on the campus of the U.S. Military Academy in West Point, New York. The 1924 Army Cadets football team represented the United States Military Academy in the 1924 college football season. In their second season under head coach John McEwan, the Cadets compiled a record, shut out four of their eight opponents, and outscored all opponents by a combined total of 111 to 41. In the annual Army–Navy Game, the Cadets defeated the Midshipmen the team's only loss came to undefeated national champion Notre Dame, by a 13 to 7 score.
