1923 European Rowing Championships
The 1923 European Rowing Championships were rowing championships held on Lake Como in the Italian Lombardy region. The competition was for men only and they competed in five boat classes (M1x, M2x, M2+, M4+, M8+), the same ones as had been used at the 1920 Summer Olympics in Antwerp. Lake Como
Lake Como ( it, Lago di Como , ; lmo, label=Western Lombard, Lagh de Còmm , ''Cómm'' or ''Cùmm'' ), also known as Lario (; after the la, Larius Lacus), is a lake of glacial origin in Lombardy, Italy. It has an area of , making it the third-largest lake in Italy, after Lake Garda and Lake Maggiore. Anthoni "Teun" Christiaan Beijnen (13 June 1899 – 13 July 1949) was a Dutch rower who competed in the 1924 Summer Olympics and in the 1928 Summer Olympics. Beijnen was born in 1899 in Ophemert, Gelderland. In 1924 he won the gold medal with his partner Willy Rösingh in the coxless pair event. Four years later he was part of the Dutch boat which was eliminated in the second round of the men's eight competition. Beijnen was a car enthusiast and twice raced in the Monte Carlo Rally. Richard Frey (11 February 1920 – 16 November 2004), also known by his Chinese name Fu Lai (), was a Chinese military physician and politician originally from Austria. He fled due to the Second World War from Austria to China and spent his entire life in his adopted country.
