Jock Sutherland
John Bain Sutherland (March 21, 1889 β April 11, 1948) was an American football player and coach. He coached college football at Lafayette College (1919β1923) and the University of Pittsburgh (1924β1938) and professional football for the Brooklyn Dodgers (1940β1941) and Pittsburgh Steelers (1946β1947). He was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in 1951. Biography A native of Coupar Angus in Scotland, Sutherland got his start in football by playing end at the University of Pittsburgh, commonly known as Pitt, under legendary coach Glenn Scobey "Pop" Warner. Sutherland was named an All-American and played on Pitt's national championship teams in 1915 and 1916. Sutherland also played on Pitt's undefeated 1917 team. The 1917 team was known as "The Fighting Dentists" because on occasion every position was filled by dental students. Griffith Stadium
Griffith Stadium stood in Washington, D.C., from 1911 to 1965, between Georgia Avenue and 5th Street (left field), and between W Street and Florida Avenue NW. The site was once home to a wooden baseball park. Built in 1891, it was called Boundary Field, or National Park after the team that played there: the Washington Senators/Nationals. The Polo Grounds was the name of three stadiums in Upper Manhattan, New York City, used mainly for professional baseball and American football from 1880 through 1963.
