Arthur Bernardes
Artur da Silva Bernardes (; 8 August 1875 – 23 March 1955) was a Brazilian politician who served as 12th president of Brazil during the First Brazilian Republic. Born in Viçosa, Minas Gerais, he was elected Governor of Minas Gerais in 1918. In 1922, he was elected President of Brazil and served until 1926. Facing a military rebellion, Bernardes ruled under a state of siege during most of the course of his term. Minas Republican Party
The Minas Republican Party ( pt, Partido Republicano Mineiro, PRM) was a Brazilian political party founded on 4 June 1888 and active during the First Brazilian Republic. It represented the republican ideology of the agrarian elite of the state of Minas Gerais. Along with the PRP of São Paulo, it was one of Brazil's two most powerful political parties from its foundation to the creation of the Estado Novo regime. It was initially controlled by politicians of Sul e Sudoeste de Minas until Artur Bernardes moved its control core to the Zona da Mata. Its executive committee (the "tarasca") was very powerful and took all the major decisions. As with all Brazilian parties of the time, the PRM was abolished at the advent of the Estado Novo. Presidential Elections In Brazil
Direct presidential elections are held in Brazil as part of the general elections every four years (which has been regular since 1994), typically in October. The current electoral law provides for a two-round system in which a candidate must receive more than 50% of the vote to win in the first round; if no candidate passes the 50% threshold, a run-off is held between the top two candidates. Every candidate has a running mate who disputes the post of vice-president; prior to 1966, the vice-president was elected separately. The country has held presidential elections since 1891, spanning over a period of several different republican governments and national constitutions. Carlos De Campos
Carlos de Campos (6 August 1866 – 27 April 1927) was a Brazilian politician, and president of the state of São Paulo for several months in 1924. He was a native of Campinas, São Paulo state, son of Bernardino de Campos (who also was a president of that state). He graduated with a law degree from the College of the Plaza of Saint Francis in 1887. Interested in music, he was a composer and founding member of the São Paulo Academy of Letters, and became its sixteenth chairman. His political career began when he was member of the Board of Municipal Intendancy Support in 1890. Shortly afterwards he served as state deputy, from 1895 up to 1915, being Chairman of the Board between 1907 and 1915. In 1896 already he had the busy position of Secretary of State for Justice.
