The 1921 Spring Hill Badgers football team was an American football team that represented the Spring Hill College as an independent during the 1921 college football season. In its third season under head coach Moon Ducote, the team compiled a 4–4 record. Three of its losses coming against college football powerhouses, Alabama, Auburn, and LSU. Spring Hill held both Alabama and LSU to 7–7 ties in the first half of those games. The final game of the season was a 28–7 loss to Mississippi College, which was led by College Football Hall of Fame member Goat Hale. Moon Ducote
Richard Joseph "Moon" "Duke" DuCôté ( ; August 28, 1897 – March 26, 1937) was an American baseball, football, and basketball coach, football and baseball player, football official, and businessman. He first attended Spring Hill College and was a notable athlete at Auburn University. He played minor league baseball with the Mobile Bears, Portsmouth Truckers, and Charlotte Hornets. In 1920, he played with the Cleveland Tigers of the American Professional Football Association. He served as the head football coach at Loyola University of New Orleans from 1924 to 1925 and at Spring Hill College for five non-consecutive years between 1919 and 1933. Ducote was the head baseball and basketball coach at Louisiana State University (LSU) in 1924. Early life Ducote was born in Cottonport, Louisiana on August 28, 1897. State Field
State Field was the home stadium of the Louisiana State University Tigers football team prior to 1924. The field was built on the old downtown campus of LSU. It was located east of the Pentagon Barracks and at the site of the current Louisiana State Capitol Building. Prior to construction of State Field, football games were played on an area called the parade grounds which was located south of the Pentagon Barracks and west of Hill Memorial Library and George Peabody Hall. The field, known on the campus simply as the "athletic field", was later moved to a site with bleachers that was north of the campus' experimental garden, and next to the old armory building. American football (referred to simply as football in the United States and Canada), also known as gridiron, is a team sport played by two teams of eleven players on a rectangular field with goalposts at each end.
