Juan Luis Sanfuentes
Juan Luis Sanfuentes Andonaegui (; 27 December 1858 – 16 July 1930) was President of Chile between 1915 and 1920. Sanfuentes was the son of writer and politician Salvador Sanfuentes Torres and Matilde Andonaegui. Orphaned at an early age and raised by his older brother, Enrique Salvador Sanfuentes, he trained as a lawyer at the University of Chile. He graduated with a Doctor of Law in 1879. He married Ana Echazarreta (ca. 1865–1927) in 1885, and the couple had five children. Rising to the position of Minister of Finance under Federico Errázuriz Echaurren in 1901, Sanfuentes served as President of the Senate of Chile from 1906 through 1909. The Chilean presidential election of 1915 developed into a bitter contest between Sanfuentes —a coalition candidate of the Liberal Democratic Party and the Conservative Party— and Javier Ángel Figueroa —supported by the Liberal Alliance parties. Juan Orrego-Salas
Juan Antonio Orrego-Salas (January 18, 1919 – November 24, 2019) was a Chilean composer, musicologist, music critic, and academic. Life and career Born Juan Antonio Orrego-Salas in Santiago on January 18, 1919, Orrego-Salas studied at the Conservatorio Nacional de Música (Chile), the music school of the University of Chile, in his native city where he was a pupil of Pedro Humberto Allende (composition) and Domingo Santa Cruz Wilson (composition). He also earned of Bachelor of Arts in architecture in addition to earning his diploma in music composition from the University of Chile. After completing his degrees, Orrego-Salas joined the faculty of Conservatorio Nacional de Música where he was a lecturer in music history, and he simultaneously joined the faculty of the Pontifical Catholic University of Chile where he founded the university choir in 1938. Ricardo Lorenz
Ricardo Lorenz (born May 24, 1961) is a Venezuelan composer and academic. Life and career Born in Maracaibo, Venezuela, Lorenz earned degrees from both the Conservatory of Music Juan Manuel Olivares and the Juan Manuel Olivares National School of Music (also known as the Venezuelan National Conservatory) in Caracas, Venezuela. He then pursued graduate studies in music composition under Juan Orrego-Salas and Donald Erb at Indiana University's Jacobs School of Music where he graduated with a Master of Music degree in 1986. He joined the faculty of the Jacobs School where he served as the director of the Latin American Music Center from 1987-1992. In 1995 he compiled and published the sourcebook ''Scores and Recordings at Indiana University's Latin American Music Center'' (Indiana University Press, 1995) In 1992 Lorenz left the Jacobs school to pursue doctoral studies in music composition at the University of Chicago where he was a pupil of John Eaton and Shulamit Ran. Gabriel Valdés
Gabriel Valdés Subercaseaux (July 3, 1919 – September 7, 2011) was a Chilean politician, lawyer and diplomat. Valdes served as the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Chile under President Eduardo Frei Montalva from 1964 to 1970. A vocal opponent of the military dictatorship of Augusto Pinochet, which held power from 1973 to 1990, Valdés worked for Chile's transition to democracy. Valdes served as President of the Senate of Chile, considered the second most important office in the country after the presidency, from 1990 to 1996. He retired from the Senate in 2006. Gabriel Valdés died from bronchitis on September 7, 2011, at his home in Santiago, Chile, at the age of 92. René Rojas Galdames
René Rojas Galdames (January 22, 1919 – October 22, 1988) was a Chilean lawyer and diplomat. He was born on January 22, 1919, and died on October 22, 1988. He married Margarita Zamora Callejas with whom he had 8 children. Education and career Rojas Galdames served as Attorney General and as secretary to the President of the Republic. He entered the diplomatic service in 1946 and in 1950 obtained a Master in Public Administration degree at the Woodrow Wilson School of Public and International Affairs at Princeton University. He was a founding member of the Third Company of the La Cisterna Fire Department of (May 21, 1943). Ramón Barros Luco
Ramón Barros Luco (; June 9, 1835 – September 20, 1919) was President of Chile between 1910 and 1915. Barros Luco was born in 1835 in Santiago, Barros Luco was son of Ramón Luis Barros Fernández and Dolores Luco Fernández de Leiva. He graduated from Law School in 1858. He died in Santiago in 1919. He was elected representative for the city of Casablanca in 1861, and from then on occupied a seat in the Lower House, being elected representative for Caldera (1867–70), Curicó (1870–73), Valparaíso (1873–76, and 1888–91), as well as for Santiago, during four separate terms, between 1876 and 1894. Later, he was elected senator for Linares (1900–06).
