Presbyterian College
Presbyterian College (PC) is a private Presbyterian liberal arts college in Clinton, South Carolina. History Presbyterian College was founded in 1880 by the William Plumer Jacobs. He had served as the pastor of First Presbyterian Church in Clinton since 1864 and founded the Thornwell Orphanage. Originally called Clinton College, its first class (including three women) graduated in 1883. In establishing PC, his "tree of knowledge", Jacobs' goal was to educate young people for lives of service to church and society, and thereby be, in his words, "epistles to Christ's honor and glory". By the time of Jacobs' death in 1917, the college had grown considerably in size and resources, and had six major buildings. Neville Hall, PC's most recognized structure, was constructed in 1907. 1918 College Football Season
The 1918 college football season was a season of college football in the United States. There was no consensus champion, with the ''Official NCAA Division I Football Records Book'' listing Michigan and Pittsburgh as national champions. World War I's impact on colleges in the country, and the Spanish flu pandemic of 1918 eliminated most of that year's scheduled college football games. However, to boost morale of the troops, many military organizations fielded teams to play against collegiate programs. This is exemplified no more strongly than in a letter published in the ''Spalding Guide'' from US president Woodrow Wilson: A huge military offensive was planned by the Allied countries in the spring of 1919, so all able-bodied men of ages 18 to 20 were scheduled to be drafted in the fall of 1918. ''The Greenville News'' is a daily morning newspaper published in Greenville, South Carolina. After ''The State'' in Columbia and Charleston's ''The Post and Courier'', it is the third largest paper in South Carolina. History ''The Greenville News'' started off as a four-page publication in 1874 by A.M. Speights. For a one-year subscription, the cost was eight dollars. After five different owners and many editors, the Peace family under the leadership of Bony Hampton Peace bought the paper in 1919 from Ellison Adger Smyth, around the same time that Greenville was becoming known as "The Textile Center of the South."
