1918 Auckland Rugby League Season
The 1918 Auckland Rugby League season was its 10th since its inception in 1909. It was again severely affected by the ongoing war with several hundred players serving overseas and 44 killed who were named in the annual report. North Shore Albions withdrew from the competition early in the season and on other occasions teams played short-handed. There was also a truncated representative program with only a trial match and one full Auckland rugby league team, Auckland representative match versus Canterbury rugby league team, Canterbury, which was played at the Auckland Domain in front of 10,000 spectators. The senior grade featured six teams. Ponsonby Ponies, Ponsonby United won their second consecutive title with an 8-win–1-loss record. Ponsonby then travelled to Christchurch to play Sydenham for the Thacker Shield and they won 11 points to 0. Auckland Rugby League
The Auckland Rugby League (ARL) is the governing body for the sport of rugby league in the Auckland Region of New Zealand. It is responsible for rugby league in the region, including both club and school rugby league. It began in 1910 when the first season of club league in Auckland occurred. The first match was a practice game between Newton Rangers and Ponsonby United at Victoria Park which Ponsonby won 17 to 15. The first full club season was in 1910. The Auckland Rugby League was once recognised by England's Northern Rugby Football Union as New Zealand's governing body for the game of rugby league. In 2009, the ARL celebrated its centenary. Newton Rangers
The City Newton Dragons are a defunct New Zealand rugby league club that was based at Victoria Park, Auckland. The club was created in 1948 by a merger of two original clubs, the City Rovers and Newton Rangers. Both the Rovers and the Rangers participated in the inaugural Auckland Rugby League competition in 1910. In 2004, the club was absorbed by the Ponsonby Ponies, who play a match in the City Newton colours annually to keep the heritage of the club alive. New South Wales Rugby League Team
The New South Wales rugby league team has represented the Australian state of New South Wales in rugby league football since the sport's beginnings there in 1907. Also known as the Blues due to their sky blue jerseys, the team competes in the annual State of Origin series. This annual event is a series of three games competing for the State of Origin shield. As of 2022, the team is coached by Brad Fittler and captained by James Tedesco. New Zealand National Rugby League Team
The New Zealand national rugby league team (Māori: Tīma rīki motu Aotearoa) has represented New Zealand in rugby league since 1907. Administered by the New Zealand Rugby League, they are commonly known as the Kiwis, after the native bird of that name. The team's colours are black and white, with the dominant colour being black, and the players perform a haka before every match they play as a challenge to their opponents. Horowhenua-Kapiti Rugby Football Union
The Horowhenua-Kapiti Rugby Football Union is the governing body for rugby union in the Horowhenua and Kapiti Coast districts in the Manawatū-Whanganui and Wellington regions. The union was established in 1893 as the ''Horowhenua Rugby Football Union'' and was changed to its current name of ''Horowhenua-Kapiti'' in 1997, in order to reflect the full extent of the union's districts. George Cook (New Zealand Rugby League Player)
George Gray Cook was a rugby union and rugby league player. Cook played for Horowhenua at rugby union, before moving to Wellington and playing for Wellington before switching codes. He played 2 matches for the New Zealand rugby league team in 1912–13. In so doing he became the 86th player to represent New Zealand at rugby league. He also played rugby league for Wellington, before moving to Auckland and playing for Newton Rangers, Otahuhu and Auckland. He enlisted in the army for World War I and died in France in 1918. The Big Store Rugby League Club was a rugby league club which existed briefly in 1918 Auckland Rugby League season, 1918 and competed in the Auckland Rugby League 5th grade competition. They were based in Auckland CBD, central Auckland, New Zealand and were made up of employees of the George Court & Sons Department Store. History 1918 Entry into Auckland Rugby League On April 17, 1918 the Big Store Football Club nominated a single team to play in the Auckland Rugby League 5th grade competition. Sunnyside League Football Club
The Sunnyside League Football Club was a rugby league club based in Devonport, New Zealand, Devonport, on the North Shore, New Zealand, North Shore of Auckland, which existed from 1914 Auckland Rugby League season, 1914 to 1920 Auckland Rugby League season, 1920. The Thames Old Boys League Football Club was a rugby league club in Auckland, New Zealand which existed from 1915 Auckland Rugby League season, 1915 to 1920 Auckland Rugby League season, 1920.
