General elections were held in Cuba on 1 November 1916.Dieter Nohlen (2005) ''Elections in the Americas: A data handbook, Volume I'', p203 Mario García Menocal was re-elected in the presidential election, whilst the National Conservative Party and the Liberal Party both won 27 seats in the House of Representatives. Results Of the population of 2.6 million, only 796,636 – less than a third – were registered to vote. Of these 353,002 voted in the elections, a voter turnout of 44.31%.General Enoch H. Mario García Menocal
Aurelio Mario Gabriel Francisco García Menocal y Deop (December 17, 1866 – September 7, 1941) was the 3rd President of Cuba, serving from 1913 to 1921. His term as president saw Cuba's participation in World War I. Youth Born in Jagüey Grande, Matanzas, Cuba, García Menocal was thirteen when he was sent to boarding schools in the United States, first at the Chappaqua Mountain Institute in New York, and later at the Maryland Agricultural College. In 1884, he then went to Cornell University where he graduated in 1888 from the School of Engineering. While at Cornell University, he was a member of the Delta Kappa Epsilon fraternity (Delta Chi Chapter). As a young man he was involved in Cuba's fight for independence from Spain. Alfredo Zayas Y Alfonso
Alfredo de Zayas y Alfonso (February 21, 1861 – April 11, 1934), usually known as Alfredo de Zayas under Spanish naming customs and also known as Alfredo Zayas, was a Cuban lawyer, poet and political figure. He served as prosecutor, judge, mayor of Havana, secretary of the Constitutional Convention, Senator in 1905, president of the Senate in 1906, Vice President of Cuba from 1909 to 1913 and President of Cuba from May 20, 1921, to May 20, 1925. The Liberal Party of Cuba (), was one of the major political parties in Cuba from 1910 until the Cuban Revolution in the late 1950s, when it was exiled. Congress Of Cuba
The Congress of Cuba () was the legislature of Cuba from 1902 until the Cuban revolution of 1959. The Congress consisted of the 150-member Chamber of Representatives (''Cámara de Representantes'') and the 54-member Senate (''Cámara del Senado''). The first Cuban Congress met for the first time on May 5, 1902. Generally, Congress held at least two sessions during a given year. Meetings were interrupted by the Second Occupation of Cuba after the session of September 28, 1906.
