The 1914 Haskell Indians football team was an American football team that represented the Haskell Indian Institute (now known as Haskell Indian Nations University) as an independent during the 1914 college football season. In its fourth season under head coach A. R. Kennedy, Haskell compiled a 5–4 record and outscored opponents by a total of 200 to 89. Its victories included games against Texas A&M and LSU; its losses included games against Notre Dame, Texas, and Oklahoma. American football (referred to simply as football in the United States and Canada), also known as gridiron, is a team sport played by two teams of eleven players on a rectangular field with goalposts at each end. The offense, the team with possession of the oval-shaped football, attempts to advance down the field by running with the ball or passing it, while the defense, the team without possession of the ball, aims to stop the offense's advance and to take control of the ball for themselves. The 1914 Texas Longhorns football team was an American football team that represented the University of Texas as an independent during the 1914 college football season. In their fourth season under head coach Dave Allerdice, the Longhorns compiled an 8–0 record, shut out five of eight opponents, and outscored all opponents by a total of 358 to 21. There was no contemporaneous system in 1914 for determining a national champion. However, Texas was retroactively named as the national champion by the Billingsley Report using its alternate "margin of victory" methodology. Pelican Park was a sports stadium in New Orleans, Louisiana from 1908 to 1914. The ballpark was bound by South Carrollton Avenue, Palmyra Street, Banks Street and Scott Street. A contest was conducted to name the new ballpark. "Pelican Park" won out over scores of other entries. When Pelican Park was demolished in 1914, the park's wooden grandstand was disassembled and relocated several blocks down Carrollton Avenue by mules to the intersection of Carrollton Avenue and Tulane Avenue.
