1913 Pittsburgh Panthers Football Team
The 1913 Pittsburgh Panthers football team was an American football team that represented the University of Pittsburgh as an independent during the 1913 college football season. In its first season under head coach Joseph Duff, the team compiled a 6–2–1 record and outscored all opponents by a total of 165 to 46. Schedule Preseason John "Hube" Wagner was elected Captain for the 1913 season at the 1912 team banquet . Also, Alfred R. Hamilton, noted longtime supporter of the Pitt football program, offered the use of his farm in Windber, PA to the team for the month of September as a training facility. Thanks to Mr. Hamilton's generosity this turned into a yearly event known as "Camp Hamilton." Joseph Duff
Joseph M. Duff Jr. (January 28, 1889 – October 10, 1918) was an All-American football player and coach who was killed in action during World War I. Duff graduated from Shady Side Academy in Pittsburgh, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania before enrolling at Princeton University. He played guard for Princeton and was selected for Walter Camp's All-American eleven in 1911. After graduating from Princeton, Duff became an assistant football coach at the school for the 1912 football season, assisting head coach Logan Cunningham (coach), Logan Cunningham. He served as the football coach at the University of Pittsburgh in 1913 and 1914 and graduated from the University of Pittsburgh School of Law, School of Law in 1915. Windber is a borough in Somerset County, Pennsylvania, United States, about south of Johnstown. Barney Dreyfuss
Bernhard "Barney" Dreyfuss (February 23, 1865 – February 5, 1932) was an executive in Major League Baseball who owned the Pittsburgh Pirates franchise from 1900 to his death. He was inducted into the National Baseball Hall of Fame in 2008. Dreyfuss is often credited with the creation of the modern baseball World Series. He also built one of baseball's first modern steel and concrete baseball parks, Forbes Field, in 1909. Penn State–Pittsburgh Football Rivalry
The Penn State–Pittsburgh football rivalry is a long-standing American college football rivalry between the Penn State Nittany Lions and Pittsburgh Panthers. The game played in 2019 was the 100th edition of the rivalry game. Penn State has not played more games against any other opponent, whereas Pitt has only played more against West Virginia University. After the rivalry resumed in 2016, it was branded "The Keystone Classic" with Peoples Natural Gas as its corporate sponsor.
