The French Rugby Union Championship of first division 1912–13 was won by Aviron Bayonnais that beat Sporting club universitaire de France rugby, SCUF in the final. The tournament was played by 18 clubs. Context The 1913 Five Nations Championship was won by Ireland national rugby union team, Ireland, France was last. The Union of French Athletic Sports Societies (french: Union des sociétés françaises de sports athlétiques (USFSA)) was a former sports governing body in France. During the 1890s and early 1900s it organised numerous sports including athletics, cycling, field hockey, fencing, croquet, and swimming. However it is perhaps best known for being the principal governing body of both football and rugby union until it was effectively replaced by the French Football Federation and the French Rugby Federation. The USFSA rejected any form of professionalism and were strong advocates of amateur sport. As well as contributing to the growth of sport in France, the USFSA also helped pioneer the development of international sport. André Theuriet (rugby Union)
Claude Adhémar André Theuriet (; 8 October 1833 in Marly-le-Roi – 23 April 1907 in Bourg-la-Reine) was a 19th-century French poet and novelist. Life Theuriet was born at Marly-le-Roi (Seine et Oise), and was educated at Bar-le-Duc in his mother's province of Lorraine. Theuriet studied law in Paris and joined the public service, attaining the rank of ''chef de bureau'', before his retirement during 1886. He published the ''Chemin des bois'', a volume of poems, many of which had been published already in the ''Revue des Deux Mondes'' in 1867; ''Le bleu et le noir, poèmes de la vie réelle'' (1874), ''Nos oiseaux'' (1886), and other volumes followed. M. Theuriet gives natural, simple description of rustic and especially of woodland life, and Théophile Gautier compared him to Shakespeare's Jaques of the forest of Arden. Jacques Forestier (27 July 1890, Aix-les-Bains – 17 March 1978) was a French internist who was a pioneer in the field of rheumatology. Forestier studied medicine in Paris, later working at Hôpital Cochin, where he became interested in rheumatology and its treatment. In 1928 he took part in the founding of the French society of rheumatology. His father, Henri Forestier, was a director at the therapeutic spas in Aix-les-Bains. Forestier is remembered for his introduction of gold salts as a remedy for rheumatoid arthritis. Historically, injectable gold salts such as gold sodium thiomalate and aurothioglucose were considered by many to be the most effective treatment for rheumatoid arthritis prior to the advent of targeted therapeutics. Albert Victor "Eutrope" Eutropius (10 January 1888 – 26 May 1915) was a rugby union player, the second black man to play for . He was killed in World War I. Born in Cayenne, French Guiana, on 10 January 1888, Eutropius moved to Paris in 1910.
