Division Of Werriwa
The Division of Werriwa is an Australian electoral division in the state of New South Wales. The name Werriwa derives from a local Aboriginal name for Lake George, which was located in the division when it was established in 1900. The division was one of the original 65 divisions first contested at the first federal election. Werriwa now covers an area in south-west Sydney, including the suburbs of Ashcroft, Austral, Bonnyrigg Heights, Busby, Carnes Hill, Cartwright, Casula, Cecil Hills, Edmondson Park, Glenfield, Green Valley, Heckenberg, Hinchinbrook, Horningsea Park, Hoxton Park, Long Point, Lurnea, Macquarie Fields, Macquarie Links, Middleton Grange, Miller, Minto, Prestons, Sadleir, and West Hoxton; as well as parts of Badgerys Creek, Bonnyrigg, Bringelly, Cecil Park, Denham Court, Ingleburn, Kemps Creek, Leppington, Mount Pritchard, and Rossmore. Australian House Of Representatives
The House of Representatives is the lower house of the bicameral Parliament of Australia, the upper house being the Senate. Its composition and powers are established in Chapter I of the Constitution of Australia. The term of members of the House of Representatives is a maximum of three years from the date of the first sitting of the House, but on only one occasion since Federation has the maximum term been reached. The House is almost always dissolved earlier, usually alone but sometimes in a double dissolution of both Houses. Elections for members of the House of Representatives are often held in conjunction with those for the Senate. Benjamin Bennett (politician)
Benjamin Holland Bennett (1872 – 12 July 1939) was an Australian politician. He was an Australian Labor Party member of the Australian House of Representatives from 1912 to 1913. Bennett was born in Young, New South Wales and was educated at Young Superior Public School. He studied law, but when his father, owner of the ''Burrangong Argus'' newspaper, died, Bennett returned to the family newspaper as manager and editor, and then later owner after acquiring his mother's interest. Although Bennett's father had been conservative in his politics, Bennett was supportive of Labor and a long-rumoured potential Labor candidate. He was secretary of the Young Turf Club and Burrangong Turf Club for many years and was president of the Young branch of the Labor Party. David Hall (Australian Politician)
David Robert Hall (5 March 18746 September 1945) was a politician and lawyer in New South Wales, Australia. Hall was born in Harrietville, Victoria, and studied law at the University of Sydney before becoming a barrister in 1903. By that time, he had already become involved in state politics, having been elected to the New South Wales Legislative Assembly as the member for the rural electorate of Gunnedah in 1901. Hall made a switch to federal politics at the 1906 election, contesting the House of Representatives seat of Werriwa for the Labor Party. He was successful, defeating Alfred Conroy, the sitting Free Trade Party member. Hall represented the electorate until 1912, when he resigned mid-term to return to State politics. At the subsequent by-election, the new Labor candidate, Benjamin Bennett, once again defeated Conroy. Alfred Conroy
Alfred Hugh Beresford Conroy (7 April 1864 – 28 November 1920) was an Australian politician. Born in Winchelsea, Victoria, he was educated at Hawthorn Grammar School in Melbourne. Becoming a bank clerk and surveyor, he moved to Goulburn, New South Wales, Goulburn in New South Wales in 1883. In 1893 he became a barrister, and he was an alderman on Goulburn Mulwaree Council, Goulburn Council. In 1901, he was elected to the Australian House of Representatives as the inaugural member for Division of Werriwa, Werriwa, representing the Free Trade Party. In 1906, he was defeated by Australian Labor Party, Labor candidate David Hall (Australian politician), David Hall, but in 1913 he was returned to the Parliament, again as the member for Werriwa but this time representing the Commonwealth Liberal Party. A by-election, also known as a special election in the United States and the Philippines, a bye-election in Ireland, a bypoll in India, or a Zimni election (Urdu: ضمنی انتخاب, supplementary election) in Pakistan, is an election used to fill an office that has become vacant between general elections. Psephos: Adam Carr's Electoral Archive is an online archive of election statistics, and claims to be the world's largest online resource of such information. Psephos is maintained by Dr Adam Carr, of Melbourne, Australia, a historian and former aide to Australian MP Michael Danby and Senator David Feeney. It includes detailed statistics for presidential and legislative elections from 182 countries, with at least some statistics for every country that has what Carr considers to be genuine national elections.
