1912 Prince Edward Island General Election
The 1912 Prince Edward Island general election was held in the Canadian province of Prince Edward Island on January 3, 1912. The election was won by the governing Conservatives, led by incumbent Premier John A. Mathieson, nearly sweeping the island's 30 districts and granting the Conservatives their first clear general election victory since the 1886 election. Mathieson was designated Premier in December 1911 at the behest of the Lieutenant Governor, following the defeat of his predecessor, Liberal Premier H. James Palmer in a by-election, one that ultimately shifted the balance of power in the Legislature from a bare Liberal majority to a situation in the Conservative's favour. H. John Richards (Canadian Politician)
John Richards (October 4, 1857 – March 8, 1917) was a farmer and political figure on Prince Edward Island. He represented 2nd Prince in the Legislative Assembly of Prince Edward Island from 1908 to 1915 as a Liberal. He was born in Port Hill, Prince Edward Island, the son of Captain William Richards and Susan Yeo, and was educated at Saint Dunstan's College and King's College. In 1884, Richards married Alice Broad. He served in the province's Executive Council as provincial secretary and Commissioner of Agriculture. Richards was leader of the opposition from 1912 to 1915. He died during a visit to Los Angeles, California at the age of 59. Albert Prowse
Albert Perkins Prowse (December 24, 1858 – June 20, 1925) was a merchant and political figure in Prince Edward Island, Canada. He represented 4th Kings in the Legislative Assembly of Prince Edward Island from 1899 to 1900, from 1904 to 1919 and from 1923 to 1925 as a Conservative member. He served as Speaker of the Legislative Assembly of Prince Edward Island from 1918 to 1919. He was born in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island, the son of Samuel Prowse and Eliza Willis. Prowse was educated at the Wesleyan Academy and then entered his father's business. His brother William joined the business some time later. Prowse exported dried fish, canned lobsters and farm produce. In 1881, he married Williamina A. Kirkland. John Alexander Macdonald (Prince Edward Island Politician)
John Alexander MacDonald (October 21, 1838 – 1905) was a farmer and political figure in Prince Edward Island. He represented 3rd Prince in the Legislative Assembly of Prince Edward Island from 1870 to 1900 as a Conservative member. He was born in Bedeque, Prince Edward Island, the son of Angus McDonald. In 1875, he married Annie C. McKelvie. MacDonald was a justice of the peace in Indian River. He served as chairman of the board of railway appraisers and was a governor for Wales' College. The Progressive Conservative Party of Prince Edward Island is one of three major political parties on Prince Edward Island. The party and its rival, the Liberals, have alternated in power since responsible government was granted in 1851. History The policies of the Liberals and Progressive Conservatives (PCs) are very similar. The major differences are in their allegiances to federal parties and in personalities.
