1912 German Football Championship
The 1912 German football championship, the 10th edition of the competition, was won by Holstein Kiel, defeating Karlsruher FV 1–0 in the final. It was Kiel's sole German championship win, previously having made a losing appearance in the 1910 final. Holstein Kiel made one more final appearance, in 1930, where it lost to Hertha BSC. For Karlsruher FV it was the last final appearance for the club, having previously defeated Kiel in the 1910 final and lost the 1905 one to Union 92 Berlin. Karlsruhe's Fritz Förderer was the top scorer of the 1912 championship with six goals. Eight clubs qualified for the competition played in knock-out format, the champions of each of the seven regional football championships as well as the defending German champions. Viktoria (trophy)
The Viktoria, formerly spelled ''Victoria'', is a German association football trophy which was awarded to the List of German football champions, German champions from 1903 German football championship, 1903 to 1944 German football championship, 1944. Northern German Football Championship
The Northern German football championship (German: ''Norddeutsche Fußballmeisterschaft''), operated by the Northern German Football Association (German: ''Norddeutscher Fußball-Verband (NFV)'', was the highest association football competition in Northern Germany, in the Prussian provinces of Schleswig-Holstein and Hanover and the German states of Hamburg, Lübeck, Mecklenburg-Schwerin, Mecklenburg-Strelitz, Oldenburg, Bremen and the Duchy of Brunswick. The regional associations, including the NFV, were dissolved in 1933 and the competition was not held again until 1946. Overview German football was, from its beginnings, divided into regional associations, each of which carried out their own championship matches. Julius Hirsch
Julius Hirsch (7 April 1892 – declared dead 8 May 1945) was a Jewish German Olympian international footballer who was murdered by the Nazis in Auschwitz concentration camp during the Holocaust. He helped Karlsruher FV win the 1910 German football championship. He played for the Germany national football team, including at the 1912 Summer Olympics. He then joined SpVgg Fürth, with whom he won the 1914 German football championship. Max Breunig
Max Breunig (12 November 1888 near Karlsruhe – 4 July 1961 in Pforzheim) was a German amateur football player who competed in the 1912 Summer Olympics. Breunig, a midfielder, started his career at Karlsruher FV in 1908, and on the final day of the 1909/10 German League season, he scored the winning goal (a penalty kick) in a 1-0 win against Holstein Kiel to win the championship. In 1913 he signed for 1. FC Pforzheim but his football career ended when the First World War began. He captained the Germany national team in all nine games he played for them and was a member of the German 1912 Olympic squad and played one match in the main tournament. Hans Reese
Hans Heinrich Reese (17 September 1891 – 23 June 1973) was a German amateur footballer, physician, and neurologist who competed in the 1912 Summer Olympics. He was also on the faculty of the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine. Early years Reese was born in Bordesholm, Schleswig-Holstein, Germany, in September 1891. He was educated at the University of Kiel, entering that institution in 1911 after finishing his secondary ("gymnasium") education. As a teenager and young adult, Hans became involved in sports and especially football. With Holstein Kiel he won the German football championship 1912. He played for Germany in the 1912 Olympic games, and retained an enthusiasm for sports throughout the rest of his life. Reese earned the M.D. degree in 1916.
