1911–12 Svenska Serien
Svenska Serien 1911–12, part of the 1911–12 Swedish football season, was the second Svenska Serien season played. Örgryte IS won the league ahead of runners-up Djurgårdens IF, while Göteborgs FF, Mariebergs IK, Vikingarnas FK and IFK Eskilstuna were relegated. Issues The league season suffered from a large number of issues. Göteborgs FF and Mariebergs IK replaced IFK Eskilstuna and Vikingarnas FK which both withdrew after only one round, their two match results are not included in the table of the other teams. Mariebergs IK then withdrew after six matches, but were allowed back in again after a while. The league was finally abandoned due to trouble finding days to play the remaining matches as the national team prepared for the 1912 Olympic football tournament by playing test matches, however the incomplete table is considered the final table. Svenska Serien (literally, "The Swedish Series", also Svenska Fotbollserien, "The Swedish Football Series") was the highest league in Swedish football, and was played 1910–1917, 1920–1921, and 1922–1924. It was then replaced by the current-day league Allsvenskan. Örgryte Idrottssällskap, commonly referred to as Örgryte IS, Örgryte () or (especially locally) ÖIS or Öis, is a Swedish sports club based in Gothenburg. It consists of four departments, namely bowling, football, athletics and wrestling. However, the club is best known for its football department. It is the oldest football club in Sweden. Göteborgs FF is a Swedish football club located in Gothenburg. Background Göteborgs Fotbollförening was founded on 20 August 1897 and is located in Gothenburg. The club is two times runners-up in Svenska Mästerskapet (first in 1899 and then in 1903) which decided the Swedish Champions in early Swedish football. The club was considered a feeder club of Örgryte IS, and played their home matches at Walhalla IP which was owned by Örgryte. The club participated in the two first seasons of Svenska Serien, finishing fifth in 1910, and being excluded after the season, but then being readmitted the next season since two clubs withdrew after only one game. Västmanland-Nerikes BK was a Swedish football club created in 1910 for the sole purpose of playing in the newly started Svenska Serien. The team was made up of the best players from Örebro BK, IFK Köping and IFK Västerås, who were selected after two test matches played before the league started. Vikingarnas FK was a Swedish football club which was founded in 1908. The team was made up of the best players from IFK Stockholm and IFK Uppsala as well as some other IFK clubs, and also other clubs during matches in Svenska Serien. Vikingarnas FK played two matches in 1908, five matches in 1909, and before the league start of Svenska Serien in 1910, the club played seven matches, of which four were played during a tour to the Netherlands. The club played its matches in Stockholm. They finished 6th in the first season of Svenska Serien, and withdrew after having played only one match in 1911–12, the second season, due to a new rule that stated that a team may only have players from one club. IFK Eskilstuna is a Swedish football club located in Eskilstuna in Södermanland County. In their early seasons IFK had a proud record as an Allsvenskan club but they now play in Division 2 Västra Svealand, which is the fourth tier of Swedish football.
