Hanna Hammarström
Johanna (Hanna) Hammarström was a Swedish inventor who was born on 4 September 1829 and died on 27 November 1914. Although telephones had already been invented, no one in Sweden could manufacture the copper wires needed to function telephones. She became the first person in Sweden to manufacture telephone wires and ran her own business in the production of these wires. Early life Hanna Hammarstrom was born on 4 September 1829 in Stockholm, Sweden, to her parents Nils Hammerstrom and Christina Holmberg [2]. Her father was a cotton and silk merchant in Stolkholm, but was originally from Dalarna, a central province of Sweden a little more than 300 km away [1]. While completing her early education at Ms. Norbergson's girls' school, her father encouraged her to learn a trade. She apprenticed for a handicraft maker, who specialized in small wire ornaments. Elsa Borg
Elsa Borg (19 July 1826 – 24 February 1909) was a Swedish educator and social worker. She is known for being the founder of the Christian Bible Home for women and its combined mission work and social work among the poor in Stockholm. Early years and education Elisabeth "Elsa" Dionysia Borg was born in Rytterne, Västmanland, 19 July 1826. She was the daughter of the vicar Denis Borg (d. 1837) and Hedvig Elisabet Borg (d. 1830). Her mother was the cousin of Pär Aron Borg. Borg was educated in a girls' school in first Sala and then Stockholm, and finally at the school of Cecilia Fryxell. Educator After having completed her education, she worked as a governess. Between 1859 and 1874, Elsa Borg functioned as the principal of the Christian Girls' School in Gävle, regarded as the local pioneer secondary education institution for females in that city. Ivar Axel Henrik Arosenius (8 October 1878, Gothenburg - 2 January 1909, Älvängen) was a Swedish painter and picture book illustrator. Biography His father Henrik (1841-1901) was a railway engineer and Captain of the Road and Water Engineering Corps. He began by studying for the real estate trade then, in 1895, he received his first artistic training from an amateur watercolorist. The following year, he began formal studies at the Valand Academy, where he became friends with the sculptor, Gerhard Henning. He also took lessons at the School of Design and Crafts, in the department of decorative painting. In 1898, he was admitted to the Royal Swedish Academy of Fine Arts, where he shared a studio with Henning. Barbro Alving
Barbro Alving (12 January 1909 – 22 January 1987) was a Swedish journalist and writer, a pacifist and feminist, often using the pseudonym Bang. She wrote for, among others, the Swedish newspaper ''Dagens Nyheter'' and the magazines '' Idun'' and '' Vecko-Journalen''. She reported from various scenes during the Spanish Civil War, World War II and the Cold War. Biography Alving was born in Uppsala, as the youngest daughter of the author and columnist Fanny Alving and Hjalmar Alving, who was a lecturer in Scandinavian languages and Nordic literature. At the age of eleven she moved with her family to Stockholm, where Hjalmar Alving had been appointed headmaster at Whitlockska samskolan. Alving was enrolled at Whitlockska, and graduated in 1928.
