In July 1849, Barlow Granger began the paper in an abandoned log cabin by the junction of the Des Moines and Raccoon River. Glidden Field was an athletic venue located on the campus of Northern Illinois University in DeKalb, Illinois. Opened in 1903, it was the home field of the Northern Illinois Huskies, primarily for football and track and field.
