1908–09 Illinois Fighting Illini Men's Basketball Team
The 1908–09 Illinois Fighting Illini men's basketball team represented the University of Illinois. Regular season The 1908–09 season witnessed the fourth coach in just four years to head up the university of Illinois Fighting Illini men's basketball team. The only difference for this season, however; was that Herb V. Juul became the first coach to stay for more than one year. He also became the first former Fighting Illini player to head the Illinois basketball program, serving as captain of the 1906–07 team. The starting lineup for the team included ''captain'' H. J. Popperfuss and Carl P. Watson at the forward positions, Emmett V. Poston as the center, and a combination of Roy G. Rennacker, Louis S. Bernstein and Thomas E. Thompson at guard. The Illini finished their season with an overall record of seven wins and six losses with a conference record of five wins, six losses and a fourth-place finish in the Western Conference. Herb Juul
Herbert Victor Juul (February 2, 1886 – November 14, 1928) was a Major League Baseball pitcher and college basketball player and coach. He played for the Cincinnati Reds in 1911 Cincinnati Reds season, 1911. He appeared in two games for the Reds, on July 11 and July 15 of that season. In one of the games, he pitched four innings, allowing two runs on three hits. He pinch hit in the other game. Williams Bay, Wisconsin
Williams Bay is a village in Walworth County, Wisconsin, United States. It is one of three municipalities on Geneva Lake. The population was 2,953 at the 2020 census. On June 22, 2024 the town was hit by an EF-1 tornado, there were no injuries or fatalities, but the storm caused some areas of considerable damage. History The village was named for Captain Israel Williams of Massachusetts, who, with several of his sons, settled in the area in 1837. Much of the surrounding area was settled in the early 19th century by surveyors plotting roadways from the East. Williams Bay became a vacation spot for wealthy Chicagoans displaced by the Great Chicago Fire of 1871. The village continues to attract vacationers from Chicago, Milwaukee and elsewhere. Mount Vernon is a city in Jefferson County, Illinois, United States, and its county seat. The population was 14,600 at the 2020 census.
