West Point is the oldest continuously occupied military post in the United States. Located on the Hudson River in New York, West Point was identified by General George Washington as the most important strategic position in America during the American Revolution. The Plain (West Point)
The Plain is the parade field at the United States Military Academy at West Point, New York. The flat terrain of the Plain is in contrast to the varied and hilly terrain of the remainder of the campus. The Plain rises approximately above the Hudson River and has been the site of the longest continually occupied U.S. Army garrison in America since 1778. In its early years, the entire academy was located on the Plain and it was used for varying activities ranging from drill and mounted cavalry maneuvers to an encampment site for summer training to a sports venue. 1908 Army Cadets Football Team
The 1908 Army Cadets football team represented the United States Military Academy in the 1908 college football season. In their first season under head coach Harry Nelly, the Cadets compiled a record, shut out five of their nine opponents (including a scoreless tie with Princeton), and outscored all opponents by a combined total of 87 to 21. The team's only loss was to Yale. In the annual Army–Navy Game, the Cadets defeated the Midshipmen Two Army players were honored by Walter Camp (WC) on his All-America team. The 1908 Harvard Crimson football team was an American football that represented Harvard University as an independent during the 1908 college football season. In their first season under head coach Percy Haughton, the Crimson finished with a 9–0–1 record, shut out eight of ten opponents, and outscored all opponents by a total of 132 to 8. There were no polls at the time to determine a national championship. However, in later analyses, Harvard was recognized as the 1908 national champion by the Billingsley Report. Most of the later analyses (Helms Athletic Foundation, Houlgate System, Parke H. Davis) designated Penn as the national champion. American football (referred to simply as football in the United States and Canada), also known as gridiron, is a team sport played by two teams of eleven players on a rectangular field with goalposts at each end.
