The 1908 Iowa Senate elections took place as part of the wikt:biennial, biennial 1908 United States elections, 1908, United States elections. Iowa voters elected state senators in 29 of the senate's 50 districts. State senators serve four-year terms in the Iowa Senate. Iowa Senate
The Iowa Senate is the upper house of the Iowa General Assembly, United States. There are 50 seats in the Iowa Senate, representing 50 single-member districts across the state of Iowa with populations of approximately 60,927 per constituency, . Each Senate district is composed of two House districts. The Senate meets at the Iowa State Capitol in Des Moines. Unlike the lower house, the Iowa House of Representatives, Senators serve four-year terms, with no term limits. Terms are staggered so that half the Senate is up for reelection every two years. Leadership The President of the Senate presides over the body, whose powers include referring bills to committee, recognizing members during debate, and making procedural rulings. Unlike the more powerful Speaker of the Iowa House of Representatives, the Senate President cannot appoint committee chairmanships or shuffle committee memberships. George McCulloch (Iowa Politician)
George McCulloch (February 22, 1792 – April 6, 1861) was an American politician who served as a Democratic member of the U.S. House of Representatives from Pennsylvania. George McCulloch was born in Maysville, Kentucky. Upon the death of his parents, he was sent to Cumberland County, Pennsylvania, where he was reared by relatives. He became an ironmaster, with extensive iron interests in Centre County, Pennsylvania. He was a member of the Pennsylvania State Senate for the 17th district from 1835 to 1836. He was one of the proprietors of Hannah Furnace from 1836 to 1850. McCulloch was elected as a Democrat to the Twenty-sixth Congress to fill the vacancy caused by the death of William W. Potter. He was an unsuccessful candidate for election in 1842. He retired from political life and active business pursuits with residence in Lewistown, Pennsylvania.
