Paterson True Blues was a professional U.S. soccer team founded in 1887 and disestablished after 1915. The True Blues, based out of Paterson, New Jersey, are best known as one of the dominant soccer teams of its era and one of the first U.S. soccer dynasties. History In the late 19th century, the northern New Jersey area of Paterson, Kearny and Newark began producing dozens of talented teams which drew their rosters from the region's textile mills, the True Blues themselves were born in 1887. Their first near success came in the 1894 American Football Association’s American Cup. That year, Paterson went to the final before falling to the Fall River Olympics. The American Football Association (AFA) was the first attempt in the United States to form an organizing soccer body. It was the second oldest sports league to form, behind the National League of baseball in 1876, as well as being the oldest soccer league in the United States. The Association was formed in 1884 in an attempt to standardize rules and procedures. Fall River Rovers
Fall River Rovers were a United States soccer club, based in Fall River, Massachusetts. They won the 1888 and 1889 American Cups as well as the 1917 National Challenge Cup. In 1921 Rovers were disbanded and a new team, Fall River United were formed to enter the newly established American Soccer League. Newark Football Club was an early twentieth century U.S. soccer team which played in several leagues including the National Association Football League and Eastern Soccer League. History In 1906, Newark F.C. entered the professional National Association Football League. Finishing a respectable fourth, they jumped to the top of the standings during the 1907-1908 season. In 1909, Newark began the season in the NAFBL, but withdrew during the season. At the same time, it took part in the failed first Eastern Soccer League (ESL). The ESL was created as a “super league” of top east coast teams who would compete both in the ESL and their home leagues. The ESL completed less than half of the scheduled games before collapsing.
