Jack Mack
Jack Mack (14 March 1881 – 9 June 1960) was an Australian rules footballer who played with Port Adelaide in the South Australian National Football League (SANFL). A follower, Mack made his debut for Port Adelaide in 1900 and played with the club until 1906 when he spent a season with Central Broken Hill. In 1907 he returned to Port Adelaide and won that year's Magarey Medal. That season he also represented South Australia at interstate football for the first time. He was part of his state's inaugural carnival team at Melbourne in 1908 and retired from the game after the 1909 season. Australian football, also called Australian rules football or Aussie rules, or more simply football or footy, is a contact sport played between two teams of 18 players on an oval field, often a modified cricket ground. Points are scored by kicking the oval ball between the central goal posts (worth six points), or between a central and outer post (worth one point, otherwise known as a "behind"). During general play, players may position themselves anywhere on the field and use any part of their bodies to move the ball. The primary methods are kicking, handballing and running with the ball. There are rules on how the ball can be handled; for example, players running with the ball must intermittently bounce or touch it on the ground. The Championship of Australia was an Australian rules football tournament which was contested between football clubs from the Victorian, South Australian, Western Australian and Tasmanian football leagues. The Championship took place three times in the 19th century and then from 1907 to 1914—with the exception of 1912—and every year from 1968 to 1975. All but two of the Championships were played in Adelaide, and all of them occurred after the respective league seasons had ended. West Torrens Football Club was an Australian rules football club that competed in the South Australian National Football League (SANFL) from 1897 to 1990. In 1991, the club merged with neighbouring Woodville Football Club to form the Woodville-West Torrens Eagles.
