The 1907 Arkansas Razorbacks football team represented the University of Arkansas during the 1907 college football season. In their second and final season under head coach Frank Longman, the Razorbacks compiled a 4–4–1 record and were outscored by their opponents by a combined total of 110 to 73. Although team lore indicates that the program adopted the "Razorbacks" nickname in 1910, the nickname was already in use during the 1907 season. Frank Longman
Frank Chandler "Shorty" Longman (December 7, 1882 – April 4, 1928) was an American college football player and coach. He was born Dec. 7, 1882 in Fulton, a small community in rural Kalamazoo County, Michigan. By 1894, the Longman family had moved to Kalamazoo, and Chandler attended and played on the football team at Kalamazoo High School (later known as Kalamazoo Central High School). He was a member of the June 1902 Kalamazoo High School graduating class, according to an article in the June 19, 1902 Kalamazoo Telegraph. Longman played college football at the University of Michigan from 1903 to 1905, where he was a star fullback. He later served as the head football coach at the University of Arkansas (1906–1907), and the University of Notre Dame (1909–1910). Longman was one of the stars of Fielding H. Athletic Park (New Orleans)
Athletic Park was a sports stadium in New Orleans, Louisiana which opened in 1901. Some sources say the ballpark was located on the south side of Tulane Avenue between South Carrollton Avenue and South Pierce Street. The Sanborn map from 1908 shows the actual boundaries as Tulane Avenue (northeast, right field), Scott Street (southeast, first base), the proposed Gravier Street extension, and then railroad tracks and the canal (southwest, third base); and the proposed Pierce Street extension (northwest, overlapping left field). Carrolton Avenue was a block west of Pierce. When the Pelicans moved a few blocks up the street to Pelican Park, this site was replaced by an amusement park called White City. The Arkansas–LSU football rivalry, formally known as the Battle for the Boot but more recently sometimes informally called the Battle for the Golden Boot, is an American college football rivalry between the Razorbacks of the University of Arkansas and Tigers of Louisiana State University. State Field
State Field was the home stadium of the Louisiana State University Tigers football team prior to 1924. The field was built on the old downtown campus of LSU. It was located east of the Pentagon Barracks and at the site of the current Louisiana State Capitol Building. Prior to construction of State Field, football games were played on an area called the parade grounds which was located south of the Pentagon Barracks and west of Hill Memorial Library and George Peabody Hall. The field, known on the campus simply as the "athletic field", was later moved to a site with bleachers that was north of the campus' experimental garden, and next to the old armory building. The 1907 LSU Tigers football team represented the LSU Tigers of Louisiana State University during the 1907 Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Association football season. The season was the first year under coach Edgar Wingard. It was also the first year at LSU for star player, Doc Fenton.
