The 1905 Tennessee Volunteers football team represented the University of Tennessee in the 1905 Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Association football season. James DePree, a University of Michigan grad, served the first of his two seasons as head coach at Tennessee. James "J. D." DePree, also known as Jim DePree, (March 14, 1879 – July 1, 1972) was an American football player and coach of football and baseball. He was the fifth head coach for the University of Tennessee Volunteers football team, coaching the 1905 and 1906 seasons and compiling a record of 4–11–3. While at Tennessee, he started the school's first basketball team and coached the baseball team in 1906. Depree married Fannie Wilson of Knoxville, Tennessee, who bore his three sons. He was born in Holland, Michigan in 1879 and died in Sarasota, Florida in 1972. The Third Saturday in October is the Alabama–Tennessee football rivalry, an American college football rivalry game played annually by the Crimson Tide of the University of Alabama and the Volunteers of the University of Tennessee. The Alabama State Fairgrounds are located in West Birmingham, adjacent to the Five Points West shopping area. The State Fair Arena and Exposition Building covers a combined total of . The fairgrounds were acquired by the City of Birmingham in 1947. For many years, the grounds were home to the Alabama State Fair. The old grandstand (later called the Birmingham International Raceway IR was home to both automobile and harness racing, as well as shows and concerts (the BIR closed in the late 2000s). The 1905 Alabama Crimson White football team (variously "Alabama", "UA" or "Bama") represented the University of Alabama in the 1905 Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Association football season. It was Alabama's 13th overall and 10th season as a member of the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Association (SIAA).
