The 1903 Dartmouth football team was an American football team that represented Dartmouth College as an independent during the 1903 college football season. In its first season under head coach Fred Folsom, the team compiled a 9–1 record, shut out eight of ten opponents, and outscored all opponents by a total of 242 to 23. Myron E. Witham was the team captain. The team played its home games at Alumni Oval in Hanover, New Hampshire. Fred Folsom
Fred Gorham Folsom (November 9, 1873 – November 11, 1944) was an American football player, coach of football and baseball, lawyer, and law professor. He served as the head football coach at the University of Colorado Boulder (1895–1899, 1901–1902, 1908–1915) and at Dartmouth College from (1903–1906), compiling a career college football record of 106–28–6. Folsom played football at Dartmouth from 1892 to 1894. He was also the head baseball coach at Colorado in 1898 and 1899, tallying a mark of 6–6. Folsom practiced law in Denver and Boulder, Colorado, Boulder and taught at the University of Colorado Law School from 1905 to 1943. Gill Stadium is a sporting stadium located in Manchester, New Hampshire. It is one of the oldest concrete-and-steel ballparks in the United States. The venue, which mainly hosts amateur baseball and football contests, has a capacity of 3,012. Beech Street Grounds Children and organized amateur teams had played baseball since at least 1880 in the area east of the Valley Cemetery, which was known as "the Plains." A ballpark called the Beech Street Grounds was built on the site of Gill Stadium at the corner of Beech and Valley Streets, on land owned by the Amoskeag Manufacturing Company.
