1902 Washington University Football Team
The 1902 Washington University football team represented the Washington University in St. Louis as an independent during the 1902 college football season. Led by Hugh White in his first and only season as head coach, Washington University compiled a record of 2–6–1 and was outscored by opponents 210 to 84. White was hired as Washington University's coach in June 1902. He had played college football for four seasons at the University of Michigan and was captain of the 1901 Michigan Wolverines football team coached by Fielding H. Yost. Hugh White (November 7, 1876 – June 11, 1936) was an American football player. He played for the University of Michigan from 1898 to 1901, and captained the College football national championships in NCAA Division I FBS, national championship-winning 1901 Michigan Wolverines football team, 1901 team. Early life and education White was born in Lapeer, Michigan, in 1876, the son of Henry Kirke White and Jane Wigglesworth White. His father had run away from home as a boy, crewed on a whaling ship, participated in the California Gold Rush, and fought in the American Civil War. The 1902 Haskell Indians football team was an American football team that represented the Haskell Indian Institute (now known as Haskell Indian Nations University) as an independent during the 1902 college football season. Led by first-year head coach John H. Outland, Haskell compiled an 8–2–1 record and outscored opponents by a total of 203 to 79.
