The president of Chile ( es, Presidente de Chile), officially known as the President of the Republic of Chile ( es, Presidente de la República de Chile), is the head of state and head of government of the Republic of Chile. The president is responsible for both the Government of Chile and state administration. Although its role and significance has changed over the history of Chile, as well as its position and relations with other actors in the national political organization, it is one of the most prominent political offices. It is also considered one of the institutions that make up the "Historic Constitution of Chile", and is essential to the country's political stability. Germán Riesco
Germán Riesco Errázuriz (; May 28, 1854 – December 8, 1916) was a Chilean political figure, and he served as President of Chile between 1901 and 1906. Early life He was born in Rancagua, the son of Mauricio Riesco, a Spanish merchant and of Carlota Errázuriz Zañartu, sister of President Federico Errázuriz Zañartu, of Basque descent. He studied at the Seminario Conciliar and at the University of Chile. At the age of 17 (four years before graduating as a lawyer) he obtained his first public job as a clerk at the ministry of Justice, in order to help support his family financially. He graduated as a lawyer on April 19, 1875, and was promoted to chief clerk at the ministry in 1880. The same year he married his cousin, María Errázuriz Echaurren, thus becoming brother-in-law to future president Federico Errázuriz Echaurren. The Pacts of May ( es, Pactos de Mayo) are four protocols signed in Santiago de Chile by Chile and Argentina on 28 May 1902 in order to extend their relations and resolve its territorial disputes. The disputes had led both countries to increase their military budgets and run an arms race in the 1890s. 1. - ''Acta Preliminar'': Argentina renounces the ability to intervene in the Chilean affairs in the Pacific Ocean 2. - ''Tratado general de Arbitraje'': Frames contract to define how to resolve territorial controversies 3. - ''Convención sobre Limitación de Armamentos Navales'': The most famous of the protocols is the arms control treaty. Cordillera Of The Andes Boundary Case 1902 (Argentina, Chile)
The 1902 Arbitral award of the Andes between Argentina and Chile ( es, Laudo limítrofe entre Argentina y Chile de 1902) was a British arbitration in 1902 that established the present-day boundaries between Argentina and Chile. In northern and central Patagonia, the borders were established between the latitudes of 40° and 52° S as an interpretation of the Boundary treaty of 1881 between Chile and Argentina. As result of the arbitration, some Patagonian lakes, such as O'Higgins/San Martín Lake, became divided by a national boundary. Additionally the preferences of settled colonists in a cultivated part of the area in dispute had been canvassed. The boundary proposed in the arbitration was a compromise between the boundary preferences of the two disputing governments, which strictly followed neither the alignment of highest peaks nor the fluvial watershed, and was published in the name of King Edward VII. Marcela Paz (February 28, 1902 – June 12, 1985) was the pen name of Esther Huneeus Ramos Falla Salas de Claro, a Chilean writer. She also used the pen names of Paula de la Sierra, Lukim Retse, P. Neka and Juanita Godoy. She was a recipient of the National Prize for Literature. Early years Marcela Paz was born in Santiago, Chile on February 28, 1902 (even though her biography indicates that she was born on February 29; however, 1902 was not a leap year). She was born into a well-off family and was the second eldest of eight children of Francisco Huneeus Gana and María Teresa Salas Subercaseaux. Since her youth she found refuge in solitude and in imagination, particularly after the death of Anita, her older sister, when Ester was only 11 years old. Bernardo Ibáñez
Bernardo Ibáñez Águila (July 12, 1902 in Antuco, Chile – August 19, 1983 in Santiago, Chile) was a Chilean schoolteacher and political figure. He was the Socialist candidate in Chile's 1946 presidential election. Ibáñez was union leader at the Confederation of Workers of Chile ( es, Confederación de Trabajadores de Chile, or CTCH). In 1941, he was elected as deputy for Valparaíso and Quillota. In 1946, he was proclaimed presidential candidate by the Socialist Party and only got 2.53% of votes, because many socialists supported to the radical candidate Gabriel González Videla. David Arellano
David Alfonso Arellano Moraga (29 July 1901 – 3 May 1927) was a Chilean footballer and founder of the Colo Colo football club. A winger, he scored in the 1926 South American Championship (Copa América) and is considered one of the best Chilean football players in history. Career Arellano was born in Santiago, Chile on 29 July 1901. His professional debut came aged 17 for Chilean football club Magallanes in 1919. In 1925 he along with other members parted from Magallanes football club to form a new club which came to be known in Chile as Colo Colo. Arellano is attributed with showcasing the bicycle kick or in Chile known as the Chilena through footballing tours that were conducted in Europe.
